This is my thread

Ilhan Omar of Minnesota House District 5 wins with 76.48% of votes. Vote count is slightly up from 2024 despite the controversy she's facing. I bet she would have gotten less votes had Trump just stfu! lol

Can't get that Learjet plane crash in Florida off my mind. Poor girl co-pilot. I was in the white car right next to it.

I think the biggest controversy is 1) people pretending that the poor girl is some kind of hero and 2) yet another instance of people calling it "a miracle" because nobody on the ground was killed. I think it's called good luck! What about the family on the plane? Wasn't a miracle to them!!! and 3) issues with pilot shortages and COVID making it worse like everything else.

I'm glad you're safe. That's one hell of a crater.

Isn't her district full of her own people? They probably just blindly voted for someone like them.

Yeah, or that person in the car next to it has to be the luckiest driver in the world. Umm, I think every other driver in the world not anywhere near it was luckier.

The most appalling thing about it were the comments about the girl being responsible because she was a girl and young. Listening to flight control convo, I was amazed how relatively calm she was knowing she was about to die. At least they couldn't have felt anything at the end.

To my knowledge

Minnesota District 5

Population: 705,006

The Minnesota's 5th congressional district has the largest Somali population in the country making up about 3% of its total population.

14.3% Foreign-born population

50% female

39% married

58% white
18% black

Median household income $80,274

13.3% below poverty line

51.4% with Bachelor's degree or higher

It's liberal white people dude.

They love immigrants but hate poor white Americans.

I kid you not illegal immigrants pay thousands of dollars to get trafficked across the boarder into Texas and they're handed bus tickets to Minnesota and told that "there will be jobs there". I'm sure it's much similar in Illinois.

It sounds like the crew took risks before this incident. There's also the pilot and co-pilot dynamic and how the less experienced co-pilot may not speak out against the decisions of the senior pilot. I think I blame the corporate culture of putting profits over lives -- saving time and fuel by flying into storms. I guess severe turbulence can have a negative impact on the structural integrity of any plane over time and sure enough we're getting an indication that the plane broke apart in air. First thing the investigator always look for is 1)Human error and 2)Improper maintenance. As somebody that wanted to be a pilot growing up, I feel sad for this girl and everyone who's died. I think as passengers we deserve a good plane and good pilots. I hope the industry takes these considerations seriously.

It always looks better in movies.

Under FAA regulations, specifically 14 CFR § 91.3, the pilot in command (PIC) is ultimately responsible for the operation of the aircraft. This includes making critical decisions regarding safety and adherence to regulations.

Careless or Reckless Operation

FAA regulations also prohibit careless or reckless operation of an aircraft. This includes actions that endanger the life or property of others. If a pilot's decisions fall into this category, it may justify the co-pilot's assumption of control.

I felt insecure about my earlier post but I just spent a couple of hours reading YouTube comments and I have a little more confidence back lol

The Good: Commercial flights are generally safe and it'll get safer by lessons learnt in this incident. Especially important as the 'iPhone generation' starts to enter the aviation industry. Looking forward to reading the NTSB reports. The radio calls made by the co-pilot is helpful and it paints the initial picture.

The Bad: "Trust the experts" narrative - I think the dead passengers thought they were trusting experts and look where that took them! According to some people, we as concerned passengers aren't allowed to look at the available data, apply logic to them and place opinions on the matter even if our lives are at stake. Just trust the experts! Understandably, sometimes it gets so confusing and people just result to an opinion like "There's nobody to blame"

The Ugly: Men and women arguing about "patriarchy" and "professionalism" - I'd say professional pilots fly planes for hours and hours and during their careers never kill a single passenger. Feminists will be feminists! Clearly, both people in that cockpit was at fault.
