They didn't give Makaveli 5 mics? Fuck them anyway, they only gave E. 1999 3.5 mics.

And obviously Lil Kim shouldn't have got 5 mics.

The albums i think should have got it:

Dogg Food-Dogg Pound
Doe Or Die-AZ
Makaveli:The DK 7 Day Theory
Reasonable Doubt-Jay-Z
Muddy Waters-Redman
Capital Punishment-Big Pun
Liquid Swords-GZA
Marshall Mathers LP-Eminem
Lifestyles Of The Poor and Dangerous-Big L
Hard To Earn-Gangstarr
The Realness-Cormega
3 Feet High and Rising

Albums on the list i think shouldn't have got it:

Ice Cube/ Death Certificate (1991)-Good album but not a classic.
Tupac Shakur/ All Eyez On Me (1996)-Makaveli-The DK 7 Day Theory deserved it more
Outkast/ Aquemini (1998)-Dont think any Outkast albums are deserving of it
Dr. Dre/ 2001 (1999)-There are a lot of filler songs on this album
Nas/ Stillmatic (2001)-Not good enough.Great album but not classic
Jay-Z/ The Blueprint (2001)-Again not good enough. Its like as if they decided to give both Nas and Jay-Z 5 Mics at the same time.If Jay-Z got it,then Nas had to
Scarface/ The Fix (2002)-No Way.One Scarface album is enough
Lil Kim/ The Naked Truth (2005)-Was this a joke or did they pity her cos she was going to jail.

Lil Kim is the only disgrace on that list. That album does not deserve five mic let alone respect from any hip hop fan. Its obvious that it was a sympathy vote. How can lil Kim get 5 mics when wu tang forever isnt on there, DoggyStyle, Hell on Earth, Liquid Swords, Makaveli, shit there are so many albums out there that make that lil Kim album look like straight up garbage.

LOL @ that equation!

When did All Eyez On Me get 5 mics? I used to read the source every month back then but i never saw the review for AEOM or Makaveli.. And i would always look for em, but couldnt find em...

Chronic and 36 Chambers only got 4.5, not 5.

Tribe should have gotten five for their first three, but only did for the first two

Lil Kim doesn't deserve a five mic for any album. Her best was The Notorious K.I.M.

Jay and Nas didn't deserve it in 2001, but the Jay album getting five was a makeup call because he didn't actually get 5 with Reasonable Doubt and since Jay got it, Nas had to as well, like somebody mentioned before.

Aquemini didn't deserve it, ATLiens did

All Eyez On Me didn't deserve 5 because the second disc was sub par: Makaveli should have gotten 5.

Dre's 2001 was huge at the time because it was his comeback and he was starting the new phase of Hip Hop with the darker, more pulsating beats, but listening to it now, it's not too much better than MMLP or Restless, so either it deserves 4/4.5 or MMLP and Restless deserve 5 as well.

The Fix deserves 4, definitely not 5, even though I love Scarface to death.

There's not enough P.E. albums: Fear of a Black Planet was better than It Takes A Nation... as were Apocalypse 91 and Theres a POISON...

Life After Death was better than AEOM, but not a 5 mic album because it fell victim to what any two disc album falls victim to: being too long and having too much filler to try and fill two discs

NWA's Efil4zaggin was better than Straight Outta Compton

Blackalicious' albums The Craft, Blazing Arrow, and Nia all deserve 5

I could go into the dozens of underground albums that deserve it, but I.....don't really want to.....?

=Your opinion.

Chronic and 36 Chambers only got 4.5, not 5.
They were reviewed again at a later date as far as i know, and were then moved up to 5 mics.I dont think Me Against the World and Reasonable Doubt received 5 mics first time around either. The list i gave is all the albums to date that have received 5 mics.

Jay and Nas didn't deserve it in 2001, but the Jay album getting five was a makeup call because he didn't actually get 5 with Reasonable Doubt and since Jay got it, Nas had to as well, like somebody mentioned before.
I agree.

MMLP definately deserved 5 mics imo

Agreed, but they dont really review underground albums do they.

That list isn't accurate. Up until 1997 or 1998, there were only eight or nine albums that got five mics. A few years later, The Source went back (for fun) and re-rated albums and changed a lot of album ratings into 5-mics (including Me Against the World and All Eyez on Me). Supposedly they never reviewed Makaveli because the album got shipped to them too late, otherwise I'm almost certain that it would've gotten 5 mics in the beginning.
