The Official Read this Good Book Thread

I have not read Da Vinci but I read A&D and didn't like it...The end was pretty dumb and over dramatic. It doesn't make sense that Langdon survived.

But good books:

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Steven Chbosky, for any thinking teenager.

"You Don't Know Me" by David Klass, same as ^

"Living a Life that Matters" by Harold Kushner, I loved this one because the author writes with such a beautiful flow or something. It's just really...thoughtful. There is the one part where he talks about a small part in a Bible story and it made me realize how it is actually very important and strong.

"The Dark Tower" by Stephen King, I'm only reading the first one right now but I'm determined to finish all seven because they have grabbed me in.

The thing about reading is that it can only be done in certain environments when you're feeling a certain way. Watching TV or listening to music is easier because the mood you're are in and the way you feel doesn't have to be a certain way so much. Sometimes I'm in a bookstore and buy books and get home and just leave them alone because my environment at home is different than the bookstore. I always wonder if the people who say "I hate to read" really do hate it or just can't get into the right zone to do it.

Peace.

Yeah, great, thanks for spoiling the ending for me. I am just reading that now.

There should be a rule in this thread 'no giving out endings-just list good books'

Faggot.

oooh, watch the language! That's a bit uncalled for, although I thought the same thing about him giving away the bloody ending! :(

Well look at it this way guys, Angels and Demons happens BEFORE the Da Vinci Code, so of course Landon is going to survive the first book.

And it does make perfect sense.

But lets not ruin books for people, people!

That was a real book everyone who likes reading should check that out, also Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi, "Monster" Autobiography of Sayika Shakur, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Sting Like a Bee by Jose Torres, Muhammed (SWH) In The Bible by Rev. David Benjamin Keldani and The Bible and The Quran In the Light of Modern Science by Dr. Maurice Bucaille all very good interesting books.

You know how I feel amara. I wasn't calling anyone a faggot, it was an insult to the circumstance. Never knew A&D is the first book, it's not obvious reading the two. They both have the same beginning! Good book though.

Yeah, but still, you made your point without needing to call him a faggot. For the record, it doesn't make a rats ass of a difference to me whether DC was the second book, you don't talk about how any book ended... common sense people

I'm reading a good one at the moment, it's called "Anne Boleyn" by Joanna Denny. It dispells all the myths about Anne Boleyn (who was, of course, Henry VIII's second wife who was beheaded). Historically, she has been misrepresented as being a whore, a witch and a seductress who clawed her way to become Queen. But, just to quote the blurb, she was actually "highly literate, accomplished, intellectual and a devout Protestant." Majority of what we are told about her, is actually lies spread by her enemies - the book goes into detail disproving these lies and highlights her true character, as well as exposing the truth behind the charges that led to her execution.

I remeber someone talking about Yukio Mishima once. Some people said he was an interesting author. I've not got round to reading any of his books but i read a few bits and bats and it made an interesting read.

Faust

written by Goethe, it's great play
here's a passage i like
(Translated from German by David Luke)
Faust translating the Bible:

If not in that old Gospel Story?
Here is the Greek text I am moved to read
Its sacred words i feel the need
now to translate them true and clear
into the german tongue i hold do dear
In the beginning was the word: why now
i m stuck already! i must change that, how?
is then the word so great and high a thing?
there is some other rendering
which with the spirit's guidance i must find
we read in "the beginning was the mind"
before you write this first phrase, think again
good sense eludes the overhasty pen.
Does "mind" set worlds on their creative course?
it means "in the beginning was the force"
So it should be but i write this too
some instinct warns me that it will not do
the spirit speaks! i see now how i must read
and boldly write: in the beginning was the deed
