It's a shame Ricky Gervais is such a one denominational comedian even in his stand up sketches it's like watching David Brent all over again abit like Mark Benton's acting skills.

I think the characters are different. He always plays a character, even in stand up. His stand up is hillarious, especially Politics.

Agreed. I can clearly tell the difference between his stand up character and Brent. Stan up he is always playing devils advocate whereas Brent is just a dumbass!

One denominational?

Assuming you meant one-dimensional, you're wrong. Apart from a couple of moments in the first episode, his character in Extras was very different to his character in The Office. For one, his character is funny. You laugh at Brent, you laugh with Andy Millman. In his stand up, you don't laugh at him for doing or saying stupid things. You don't have those uncomfortable moments where Brent gets himself into a hole and just keeps digging. With his stand up, Gervais is actually being funny and clever. Occassionally he'll say deliberately stupid things (like the stuff about Hawkings' accent) but it's obvious that he's being sarcastic, whereas Brent isn't.
