Film & TV The Dark Knight (Batman Begins 2)

#1
As a follow up to last year’s blockbuster Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan is set to direct Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Dark Knight, written by Jonathan Nolan, based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer. The film will be produced by Emma Thomas, Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan. Additionally, Christian Bale will resume his role as Bruce Wayne and Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has been cast as The Joker. The announcements were made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Christopher Nolan revamped the Batman franchise in 2005 with the immensely successful Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale in the title role, which chronicled the early years of the superhero. Nolan first garnered attention from critics and fans in 2000 with the groundbreaking drama Memento, which he wrote and directed. He went on to direct the thriller Insomnia, starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams, and recently wrapped production on The Prestige, with Hugh Jackman and Bale.

Bale was most recently seen in the ensemble cast of Terrence Malick’s The New World. His other credits include Little Women, Portrait of a Lady, Metroland, American Psycho, Laurel Canyon and Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun, which was his first starring role.

Ledger most recently earned Oscar Golden Globe, BAFTA and SAG Award nominations and won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Ennis Del Mar in the award-winning drama Brokeback Mountain. His other credits include Casanova, Monster’s Ball, Lords of Dogtown, The Brothers Grimm and The Patriot.

“Chris’ unique vision is what made Batman Begins such an outstanding film and we could not imagine anyone else at the helm of The Dark Knight,” said Robinov. “We also can’t wait to see two such formidable actors as Christian and Heath face off with each other as Batman and The Joker.”

“I'm excited to continue the story we started with Batman Begins,” added Nolan. “Our challenge in casting The Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented but fearless. Watching Heath Ledger's interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale’s Batman is going to be incredible.”

Production is set to begin on The Dark Knight in early 2007.

Well there you have it, Ledger is offically The Joker, and I love the title.

Titles cool, i like direction Nolan is going with these movies, looking forward to it.
Heath Ledger as the joker  , dunno how thats gonna turn out but i must admit that i would have liked to have seen Paul Bettany or for Mark Hamill to make a triumphant return to cinema lol.

I'm guessing Caine is returning as Alfred?

Yeh lol that joker looks pretty mental, i am curious to know how they might approach the charactor in the new one as they made a point of saying for batman begins they were going for a more realistic approach (as realistic as that world can get i guess). Something tells me he won't have all the wild facial features like the pic below shows, he'll just be a bit of a psycho. Obviously he will still have the fucked up face because of the acid and shit but this joker is gonna be something else i suspect.
Hope i'm wrong as the joker below is awesome and i still enjoy the '89 Burton Joker.

NICE, I hope they remake all the batman movies with a more serious feel to them. So we can have Batman as it should be instead of the kid versions of the 90s.

Ryan Phillippe may be set to take over from Tommy Lee Jones after reportedly landing the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the upcoming Batman Begins sequel. Reese Witherspoon's husband will join Heath Ledger, who has signed on to play The Joker, and new Batman Christian Bale in The Dark Knight. Crash star Phillippe beat Liev Shreiber and Josh Lucas to the role of the scheming district attorney, played by Jones in 1995 movie Batman Forever, according to internet reports. Academy Award winners Sir Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman have also joined the cast, while fellow Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman is in talks to play The Penguin in the new film.

i dont know about this movie now, too many villians at one time. its gonna be tricky to pull this one off, i wish them good luck
Well, you if you guys remember Batman Begins had 4 villains (Ducard, Ra's Al Ghul, Falcone and Scarecrow) and that worked out great. I expect The Penguin to be a side character, kind of like Falcone, Dent to actually be Dent and not Two-Face (save that for the third film) and The Joker as THE main villian.

well it can be done if they do it right, but having that many villains inone movie can make the plot too confusing if its not done just right. i'm not saying the movie wont be any good, i'm just more skeptical about it now
