It varies depending on which comics you read, but it basically goes like this:

Spideys stumbles across an alien symbiote which covers him and acts as a new (jet black) costume. It's alive and sentient and responds to his thoughts, changing its form and doing all kindsa funky ish. Anyway, turns out it's evil and is trying to permanently join with -and control - Spidey. Mr. Fantastic (of the Fantastic Four) helps him remove it...there's a struggle, the symbiote is weakened and escapes. The symbiote comes across Eddie Brock, a reporter with a grudge against Spiderman because he made him look incompetent, and fuses with him. Eddie Brock starts running around with this alien suit on calling himself Venom and looking for revenge on Spiderman.

That's the basic origin of Venom/the black symbiote suit.

i was thinking that last night as well. when spiderman first came out and even when the 2nd one was released, i didnt even want to see them. i thought they would suck. i couldnt stand that loser that plays spiderman, but the more i see the movies being played on cable, the more i am falling in love with the new spiderman movies.

I see alot of symbolism in that poster look at his pose, head down, it's raining. That tells me that shit is probably going to hit the fan in the 3rd one, and it's definately the black costume, not a black and white photo I can see some color in there such as green and blue. Also can anyone see what's in his eye? I looked upside down and it looks like sharp long teeth, possibly Venom?

The first poster has to be just in black and white though, cause the symbiote on Venom in the second poster is slightly modified from the "black costume" spidey wore in the comic........Meaning, the black costume didnt have the mouth that Venom has on spidey, but pretty much everything else was the same as Venom.......I think the first poster is just tryin to make shit look gloomy as hell, feel me? Who knows, maybe Spiderman wears the black costume for a short time in the movie, but if thats the case, it certainly wouldn't look like the first poster.....Especially since Venom is gonna be in the movie, lol.

No mention of Venom for the movie. Just Sandman and possibly a new Green Goblin(Harry Osborn).....Then again, I've seen things ABOUT Venom in the movie as well so who knows, maybe he will be.
