Four Portland high school students were reportedly sent home recently for having shaved vertical lines in their eyebrows similar to Soulja Boy.
According to The Associated Press, school officials at Centennial High claim that police notified them that the cut popularized by Soulja Boy is a mark used by local gangs.
Students with the mark are now not allowed to return to the school unless they shave their eyebrows off.
Four students were sent home and one returned with a bandage covering a shaved brow.
Police claim that gang members shave one line into an eyebrow and three lines in the other to symbolize 13.
"We don't dictate policy for any schools" Officer David Schmidt of the East Multnomah County Gang Enforcement Team said. "We just tell them what we see the latest trends are. This is a way for them to identify each other. In a school setting, it intimidates other kids."
Andy Gonzalez, 17, a student at Centennial High who had the eyebrow cut, claims he isn’t in a gang and shaved his brows to impress girls and look cool. Gonzales said he would be humiliated if he had to shave his brows off.
Centennial reportedly implemented the rules on the eyebrows after other local high schools did, but the other schools say they only look for the markings of the 13 style.
