I just got a call from a lawyer representing a company I used to work for 4 years ago (Aldis).. Basically she was representing the company in a lawsuit against a women who claimed to have slipped and fell on a piece of cardboard in the aisle, and because I was the manager on duty, they want me to give a deposition or whatever. So I tell her that I havent even worked for the company since like '03 and I dont have time to drive 40 miles (thats where her office is) to give a statement.. Then she starts saying how if I dont go, I can get supoenaed (however you spell it) and some other stuff she was saying..

So my question is, do I have to go? She represents the company so I'm sure she'll say whatever she can to get me down there.

you gotta go if u get a subpoena or u can be in,contempt of court

u should be reimbursed for driving there

If they subpoena you you have to go. I'd just go talk to them right away so you can skip court and all that.

Yea ill go if I have to. I was just wondering if she was just bullshitting me with the subpeona thing. I could see if it was a crime or something, but its not, so im just trying to figure out if she said that just to get me down there.. Since without me im sure the defendant would have a better chance of winning a settlement.

The person can subpoena you. So if you really don't give a shit let them give you one. It won't hurt you and at least you can tell youre employer about you going to court. If they call you back, tell them to send one down to you but don't give them any personal info of youreself like mailing address and so forth.

so what happened, this chick tried suin the company 1st for originally fallin on the "cardboard" and now 4 years later the company wants to be reimbursed and then some cuz she was lying?

Yea basically some lady said she slipped on a piece of cardboard in the aisle, and the ambulance came to take her away since she claimed that she hurt her hip.. I was the manager on duty when it went down so I told her to just relax while I called 911.. Funny cause I saw the "cardboard" and no lie it was about 4 inches by inches.. It was a tab from a box handle.. A perforation from a cardboard box that they make to put your hand in so you can carry it. But yea I guess she went thru with the lawsuit.. Crazy..

I personally think she was faking since while waiting for the ambulance I remember talking to her daughter, and I could sense that maybe it was staged/exaggerated..

I got a subpoena once...I didn't go...I got a warrant...I paid for the warrant...

That was all.
