Psychology

Wow, there's a wealth of ignorance in this thread.

There's a vast difference between enjoying the science of psychology and actually being a psychologist.

You have to ask around to see what it's all about; picture yourself as a psychologist and try to determine if that's what you can do.

In most cases, I think, high-school education is not truly representative of scientific fields. So don't base your decision solely on highschool.

For those wondering, even though a simple google search would have sufficed, psychology and psychiatry are profoundly different fields and different paths to take.

To be a psychiatrist is to be a medical doctor. You have to study biology, chemistry and physics. You have to get a degree in pre-medicine or any degree with the appropriate pre-medical courses. Then you have to do four years of medical school. Then you have to get accepted in a residency program.

So for the first 8 years of your life, you're pretty much doing what any Doctor does. The blood, the guts, the rectal exams, the unbelievably long hours of studying, the expensive tuitions, the almost-impossible to get into medical schools.

All of it.

cegep is post-secondary education (post high school) it's obviously not gonna be the hard stuff, but i liked what i learned and it interests me. i'm not fucking stupid. i've been wanting to be a psychologist for the past 4 years. i almost abandoned that goal when i found out how many years i had to study (BA, Masters, Ph.D). but now i'm decided.

that i knew. but it's not known by everyone. a psychiatrist can prescibe medication, a psychologist can't.

and salty, there is such things such as medical imbalance.

It has nothing to do with you being stupid though. I didn't even suggest you lacked the mental capacity ! haha I'm sure that if you put in the work, you can do it!

I'm just saying I see it all the time with my friends who first enter university. They come in thinking they know exactly what they want to do and then a year later, they're in complete shock and unable to move (so to speak).

Just make sure you understand what type of work you'll need to put in and what life will be like as a psychologist!

But surely, the only difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist is not the prescription of medicine. In fact, there are trainings psychologists can now receive that gives them the authority to prescribe medication.

Anyways I think a lot of people can get A's but they dont know the right way to go about it. You have to learn how you remember material best and work with that. If you want some tricks, let me know.

I wouldn't mind to be honest.. I'm gonna go follow Psychology too!
It's been myn dream ever since I was about 14 years old (I'm 19 years now) and I really hope I can make it!
I'm scared about failing, because it's honestly the only thing that ever interested me in my life, so if I don't make it, it's like I won't have a future ..

In Belgium, you have two kinds of schools after High School, University, and a grade lower (which is, ironically, called High School if you translate it literally :p)!

I'm gonna take 2 years of (again, literal translation) "Applied Psychology, in "High School". Like I said, it's a lower grade than University and it's a Bachelor.
After those two years tho', I can choose to go to the University grade and go for a Master. That's what I'm planning on doing. (Instead of immediately going for my Master in University..) I can do it either that way (and become a real Psychologist (what is what I want), or just stay in "High School" and do 3 years there for my Bachelor. But I'd only be able to become an assistant and things like that.

The reason why I'm doing it this way, is because I've heard my teachers tell me time after time that I definitely got what it takes to go to University, but I need to learn to work. I admit I've been incredibly lazy over the past couple of years in High School. I only studied for my exams for about 3 hours(3 times a year the first 2 years, and 2 times a year the last 3 years) and that's what got me through the year. I barely studied at other times, only for my exams.

But I do realise I can't go to University that way, I need to learn to put work in, study every day, etc.. etc.. and that's what I hope I'll learn the first 2 years, because I really need to change my ways!

So, that's my story lol :p hope somebody takes the time to read it, because I could use some advice!
Sorry for the long ramble

yeah i've seen people drop out of university because they realized they didn't like what they were studying and didn't know what to do.

i adore psychology. it's one of the few topics i found interesting in cegep with sociology. i'm good at history but not specifically interested.

and yeah there are some psychologists that can prescribe but even then they can't prescribe that much i think.
