Just curious as to everyone's view on this. I think this is going to be long so forgive me.

A few weeks ago at the club I noticed a new bartender at one of the bars in it. Realizing he was someone I played soccer (football for Eurofags) with for like 10 years of my life. I knew this kid since I was 6 or 7 up until it was time for the team to disband for college. Anyway, long story short, I went over to him , pulled up my stunner shades (lolthx) so he'd recognize me after 6 years, which he did. I talked to him for a few mins, got my beer from him and went back to the dance floor. The next time I saw him there, he gave me drinks on him. I thought it was nice. And I tipped him like 5$ for two free beers. When I left the club that night I felt really bad because I'm very appreciative of people who are generous to me. I wasn't sure if I tipped enough for two free beers. I thought about this for a week until I went tonight and saw him.

Before I continue with this story, I must explain the layout of the place. It's 5 stories with different themes on each floor (it is huge because of it's proximity to XM headquarters. Artists tend to make a concert out of a night after being at XM). I arrived extra early because Beyonce was going to be there tonight. I don't care to see her, I just want to go to the club. I knew it'd be packed. Regardless, I was there a bit early so I couldn't access the second floor yet (which is hip hop). I see my man guarding the door so no one could get in. I walk up to him shake his hand and tell him what's up n shit. I was under the impression he really didn't care. Damn I was mad like a gay fag because I thought it was because I didn't tip well when I pretty much took money out of his pocket when he gave me free drinks (this is true right?).

So for the important part of this thread. I am absolutely horrible at gauging what's proper to tip at a bar. When the second floor opened, I went up to him and got a beer for myself and a Red Bull for my friend. For a moment, I was wondering if he was going to tell me if it was on me. No. He tells me it's $9.00. I figured such would be the case. I gave him a $20 and $11.00 was his tip for that. Needless to say, he was quite happy about that. But the fact remains, I am horrible at gauging what's right to tip. So what do you tip at the bar usually? I feel like I never tip too little. When I go to the bar I usually just get one beer for me and tip $2.00 each time. On a given night I may get 10 beers so that adds up. But tonight, one girl was so beautiful I wanted her attention so I was tipping her $5.00 with every beer I got. And I did get her attention and her number. kthx :)

Well, people dont tip in Australia, but me and Bleezy usually do, Ill just hand them a $20 and let em keep the change on whatever I get (two of whatever), so it's usually an $8 to $5 tip.

You tip with every drink that you get? Sometimes more than 100%? Holy shit, that's expensive.

I've never bought drinks at a club or bar though--seeing as I don't turn 21 until October--so maybe I'm not one to comment

Depending on where I go, drinks are usually between 3-5$. But at this place, beers are $5.00. So I think $2.00 is right. ...see what I mean!!!

Tipping is a rarity here in the UK. Probably because everything is so damn expensive in the first place. Tipping is not part of culture here like it is there, if you don't give someone a tip they ain't gonna get mad because they don't expect to get one in the first place. So if you do give them one they really appreciate it...unless of course you give them a really shitty one which is obviously still an insult.

About 4 years ago I was working in a Thai restaurant, I once had this table of 20 people. This wasn't a cheap restaurant, it was an expensive place.

The bill for all of them was over £400 ($800). Me and I think 3 others were serving them.

Between all fucking 20 of them they managed to scrub together a tip of...........£15. I was pissed. If they had left no tip at all, I wouldn't have given a shit. But a couple of times, some cool folks gave me like a £20 tip on a bill that was less than £50....so that was cool.

I believ I'd tip at the end of the night if I bought more than just one or two drinks. Sorry Eric, but you're crazy for tipping 40% just for grabbing a beer out of a cooler.

See, if you tip at the end, you're going to get bad service. Every time you get a drink, their going to recognize you as the asshole that doesn't tip. I'm just generous and I appreciate good service. In return, I expect priority when I return to the crowded bar.

PS: how come you dont talk to me on AIM? I have missed you dearly.

I don't care about service when all theyre doing is getting me a drink. Of course, if it's a place I end up going to normally, I'd start being more generous with my tipping. I feel like getting someone one or two things isn't really service, theyre just doing their job. If they went out of their way to go above and beyond for you, then that's a different story.

Good analogy: You don't tip your hostess for taking you to your seat, but you do tip your waitress for waiting on you over a period of time.

lol I don't go on AIM all that much, and you never IM me when I am at my computer. I'm at work right now, so I'm not at my home computer where I'm signed on. Next time I'm chatting on there I'll look for ya though.

last time i went to a bar was the worst ever. i went for the damn chicken wings cause they;'re cheap..but i don't drink and i thought i had liquor in my drink when i ordered it so i was pretty pissed at the bar, and at my friend and i wanted to leave....but it turns out there was nothing in the drink but coke....and then i got even more pissed off later that night when the waitress came up to me and gave me a hug..i was like what the hell...im gonna go now..have a nice day....u cant hug me when im all angry and everything..she was pretty fine too but that doesn't make it any better (well maybe)

but ppl i know that go to clubs and bars pay up big time...200 - 300 dollar tips...but thats cause they got all their drinks for free and they drink a lot so they have to put up alot u know

but for bars...keep the tips casual...i don't tip at all when i go to restaurants....once i had my meal paid for free (about 12 bux worth) cause the person i was eating with knew the manager...so i just gave a 5 dollar tip..which was pretty decent because i don't give out tips.

Edit: oh ya heres a tip..dont brush up a waiteress for wanting to give u a hug. but my situation was worse then that

Lol, you so remind me of Dwight Schrute right now. Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food. I can drive a taxi. I can, and do, cut my own hair. I did however, tip my urologist, because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.

lmao, that came to my mind too as i was typing it

So you actually have to pay women to get their attention?

I tip. Usually. But not nearly as much as you do.

Haven't you seen Reservoir Dogs? These people make shit. lol.

Anyways, here in Canada it isn't like in Europe, tip isn't included on the bill at a restaurant or at a pub. So we usually tip 15%, when it comes to me, I usually tip 30% or more if the service is great, and if the guy is a prick I just keep it at 15%. I know how it feels to not be tipped and it's ass, especially when you go above and beyond to give good service. If it makes them happy to receive the tip and it encourages better service in the future. Why not?

Last weekend I was at a bar and coronas were three bucks, I'd give her 5 bucks and walk away. BUT, largely due to the fact it takes her forever to give your change back so you look like an idiot with a beer in your hand looking like you're waiting for something.

i tip 2 dollars each time i buy a drink at a bar/club. or sometimes less depending on how i feel. but usually it ranges from 50 cents (if its a really non expensive drink) to 2 dollars.

I tip every drink if I'm paying cash. I know the bartender where I go so it usually works out in my favor because towards the end of the night he'll just stop charging me for the drinks and I'll just tip him. I know I over-tip because I get drunk and generous.

I pretty much took money out of his pocket when he gave me free drinks (this is true right?).

that depens on how the place is organized but if he gives it away that easly u shouldn't feel guilty about a 5$ tip.

I only give a tip if I feel like it, and if I do it's rather 0.20 $ then 5$ or whatever, that's way too much man - at least for me and that is way more than anyone else gives, I'm sure about that. Anyway. If the barkeeper is my friend (I got a few) I usually don't give any tip at all - that feels wreid, we are above money if we're friends, u know.
