People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are urging Arizona authorities to serve DMX with a harsh sentence for the animal cruelty charges he currently faces in the state.

As reported earlier, DMX's house was raided in August 2007 after authorities were tipped that dogs were being abused on his property.

Twelve malnourished and scarred pit bulls were found on DMX's property including the remains of three dogs.

The Yonkers bred rapper would be charged with seven misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

According to TMZ, PETA wrote a letter to the Arizona prosecutors involved in the case Friday (August 29) asking for DMX to be put behind bars and banned from owning animals. They also asked for the rapper to undergo mental evaluation.

"On behalf of our thousands of members and supporters in Arizona, we respectfully urge your office to prosecute [DMX] to the fullest extent of the law," the letter read. "We implore your office to take every measure necessary to ensure that [DMX], if convicted, is barred from owning or harboring animals for as long as possible."

"We also ask that, if convicted, [DMX should] serve a meaningful period of incarceration and be required to undergo a thorough psychological evaluation followed by mandatory counseling at his own expense," PETA said. "The safety of the community might depend on it."

DMX also faces drug charges, identity theft charges as well as speeding charges in Phoenix.
