I'm sorry but i realy have to vent my frustrations in here.

We recently had our half yearly examinations, and I am in my last year of school - so naturally this year is a very important year and all my marks mean a lot.

A good friend of mine cheated in this way:
1) Teacher said pens down. Everyone put their pens down. A lot had unhappy looks on their faces because they ran out of time to finish or some shit like that. Anyway he kept writing for an extra 5 minutes when he wasn't supposed to. I know 5 mins isnt much, but under exam conditions [with all the pressure and your mind rapidly thinkingg] you can do a lot in 5 minutes. Basically he put himself at an unfair advantage - and it turns out he came like 6th in the grade. Not fair.
2) Did the same in the geography exam - came 4th.

But the thing is it doesn't end with exams. Whenever we have an essay from our own research [doing it at hoime etc..] there is a set word limit with which we must abide. For religion it was approx 800 words, my friend did 2000 words. Now i know it seems that he put more effort in but if they wanted 2000 then they would have asked for it. Again he puts himself at an advantage. He did it for extension history aswell ; word limit = 1200 words max yet he writes 2500 and ends up coming first. Im sorry but this pisses me the fuck off. I struggled to follow the word limit - cutting out essential parts etc, yet when he just throws all this shit together with no consideration for the word limit he still comes first.

This sounds real catty but in the final year of school where i live competition is everything. IKt's not so much your mark you get, it is more your rank. And this bullshit my friend is doing just puts him at an unfair advantage. Doesnt it?

any thoughts?

Ah, are you crying? I hated students like you in school. I am not saying you're a nerd or something, but it pisses me off how kids like you think school is life. Basically, people like you defend their papers, tests and other work with their life.

I remember this girl sat next to me in Spanish and she refused to let me copy. I don't have a problem with that, but please use an excuse other than "I worked hard for it. You should too." That's the biggest load of BS I've heard.

Kids like you should be the teacher's children. Why? You people mimick teachers in every way. To deter kids from cheating, they tell the kids "don't let kids copy your work. You worked hard for it!" You idiots fall for it.

To go back to the girl, I would have let her copied anything and everything she wanted. That particular day I may not have had a chance to study or something. It doesn't matter. That's not the point. It wasn't like I was trying to be lazy or something. I would have given her anything she wanted, and I would have split the work two-way.

Anyway, take care of yourself, and let your friend do his thing. If you want to succeed, be like him, or just stay how you are and whine. If he wants to do things his way and he gets away with it, good for him. You shouldn't be mad at him. You should be mad at yourself for not being like him.

PS: High School is 90% BS. Don't sweat yourself.

It turns out you're *cough* someone. I take back all the hostile words in my post. Excuse me. After a clarification, I understand where you're coming from, but you should post the clarification for everyone who doesn't understand your country's system.

I feel sorry for you that you feel the pressure of competition and coming in first in class. I thought that was left behind in grade school. I guess I'm wrong. Also, I don't like people like you. I'm an A student, but from time to time, I like to cheat when I get the chance. I almost failed my pre-calculus class because a couple of students in my class reported me and my friend cheating. To them, we're immigrants that came to the US and found an easy way to pass tests, while they, "The Americans", had to study for hours. Also, LMAO at getting pissed off because of the word limit. If he exceeds the word limit and gets a good mark, why not ask your teacher what the point of the word limit is in the first place?

^^^...S O F I S T I K, my motto is: mind your own business. If you see someone cheat, look away. I feel bad for you.

But I can see where ill-matic is coming from. Where's he's from, there's literally a competition between students. They compare your performance to other students. That's not how it works in the USA. I feel bad for ill-matic also. In the USA, you do your thing, and colleges will look at your grades mostly (well, they want to know if you played sports and stuff also).

If you can cheat and get away with it, go for it, thats what life after school is all about business wise.

I hate kids at school that cry because others cheated. Thats called using your logical inisiative and not being a fucking square, I garantee they will get further in life then all the do gooders.

And i dont mean the total dumb asses. I mean the smart kids that got a little bit extra.

I cheated for most highschool shit, why? Cause I could. You gotta be smart to cheat in an exam and not get caught. It takes guts and skills.

If you dont want to cheat, FINE. More power to you, it is wrong. Im not saying you should or have to cheat, or its cool. Just dont hate on people that get away with it.

Dont hate the player, hate the game.

Unless he goes to a "special" private school, there is no real competition between students. It's the way the society is in most of Europe, for example. You are pressured into doing well in school because otherwise you will be made fun of and nobody will be friends with you. In my country, people were scared to show their low grades because people would make fun of them. In American public schools, for example, it's very easy to see people flaunting the F's they got on their papers. The ones that received As are so-called "geeks" and made fun of. But, that is not even the point. I stated my point, very similar to Rukas', and I'm sticking with it.

that is exactly what I wanted to say. I cheated in school, I cheat a lil her and there on university and I really think ou should to. Why? Do what you gotta do to advance. And I'm glad I did pratice cheatin in school, that's why I have the nerves and everything to do the same thing now.

Anyway, in my class in high school anyone did share, I never did homework at home acutally, never. There was noone that refused help, never. And I love it, we did stick together, u know....and I really don't know why people would refuse to copy etc. - I hate those guys.

I agree with you. But in my state the system is totally different. To get into University the universities DO NOT look at your "raw" exam marks. The final "mark" you get is calculated by a Board of people that take into account all these different factors such as how you perform in your assessments etc. The process undertakes a system of alignment, where your "raw" mark is scaled up depending on some standard deviation and average shit for example.
E.g.
I get 60% in something called "4 unit maths" , which, in the state i live in, is the highest maths you can possibly do in high school and is extremely difficult. The Board takes the issue of difficulty into account, thus they push the mark up, scaling it to something like 90%. My "raw" mark does not remain the same, see what i mean?

Another thing. The system in the state i live in is BASED ON COMPETITION and RANKING. They dont look at your marks, like i sed before, they look at how you are ranked amongst the other people in the whole state. This is called the "University Admissions Index" (UAI). So a UAI of 100 means you are the best of the best, and a UAI below 50 means you are like the worst of the worst.

Therefore the system basically thrives on competition. You are in fact competing for a position in University with everyone in the state. If this wasnt the case then i wouldnt give a flying 747 fuck about who cheated.

keep doin wot u doin and if u have to claw back an 'unfair' advantage that another person is givin themselves, do wot they do. And it aint wrong wantin to be first in class etc a bit of competitive edge never goes amiss. u can transfer that onto the sportsfield, in school, in work etc. its where success comes from

:thumb: Whenever I need to cheat I do. I hate the losers who start bawling over something so minute.

Exactly.

If that is the way the system works you have to play the game that way. Someone will ever cheat (even through the examples u listed are barley cheatin in my eyes) - so stop cryin and accept it or cheat too. period.

I can tell you one thing, your friend will go far in life and if you stand still and bitch and moan you will go nowhere

An OG has spoken, I suggest you listen.

I would also question your friendship with the dude seeing as you're whining so much about him.

So, which colleges/universities are you applying to?
