I don't think I qualify as one that is "shoving" anything down anyone's throat. I'd like to think that my arguments have been pretty on-topic and still not resorting to name-calling or degrading someone's character. It's the first thing I learned in my speech class and it's something I've been putting into practice.

I don't believe anything is above questioning and criticism. I don't claim it's wrong to criticize religion even when it's a part of someone's social identity. I merely ask that people understand the significance that religion plays in a person's life when you choose to criticize it. For a lot of you, theological discussion is more or less just about expressing your dissatisfaction with religion and also trying to satisfy your egos by presenting a more compelling anti-religious argument. What you see as just winning an argument on an internet forum, others see as a direct attack on their core, as I previously said. In other words, you're all about intellectual dick jerking. But for others, religion is a fact of life and a way of life. I think the way religion is discussed here by some, (Rukas, Casey, Duke) is highly counter-productive in their aims and just serves to create divides. I don't ask for self-censorship by any means, but just for more mature and respectful discussion.

How often do you see a religious person that is of a DIFFERENT religion to their parents? Exactly. How often do you see someone who's diet is radically different to their parents? Exactly. These people do not stop to consider anything else. These are the people that need to be made aware of things like animal abuse, factory farming, the lies of the meat/dairy industry, the extreme health problems of eating meat/dairy, the numerous ethical issues....etc.
The truth of the matter, Pittsey, is that for every 1 person like you that knows why the rational arguments for atheism, vegetarianism, veganism exist, there's millions out there who are either completely uneducated, or in denial because they can't handle the reality of the situation or the fact that something they have been raised with all their life without thinking about it, can be wrong.
