Opinions on Mitsubishi Evo IX?

yeah, i have never tried driving stick, and i think i'd prolly suck at it and end up crashing...too many things going on at once....does that make me a woman???

and when i first saw " You're correct. My bad, slip of the tongue... or finger, in this case."...i thought you were flicking him....and yes, it was necessary for you to know that........

No, it makes you a 16 year old who doesn't know how to drive stick yet. We've all been there, it's not like we came out of the womb knowing how to operate a clutch pedal. But if you're 18 and still unable to drive stick, then we might have to put you in the "woman" category.
 
Driving stick is dirt easy when you're used to it. I've never driven a car until my first driving lesson at 18. Working the stick is no biggie at all, and it increases the involvement factor by 100%. After a while you learn the intricacies of the system and know how to work it.

I had driving lessons in a peugeot 206 diesel :cool: Like all diesel, the clutch was very forgiving. Picked up quick, had a long gripping point. Then after that i had to learn my dad's old Saab, and those things are notorious for their tricky clutches. Takes ages for the gripping point to come up, and its gone within an eyeblink. I stalled like 5 times before i even got the thing moving lol. But after 4 trips you've learned how it works and it all adds to the fun. Trying your hand at matching downshift revs to smooth things up, double declutching, heel and toe (ridiculously hard in said Saab because of the pedal positions, lol. its possible when you do toe and heel instead of heel and toe (Deeez will get me)).

Anyway, im ranting. BLame drugs, point being, learning to drive a stick is dirt easy and very rewarding if you have any interest in driving.
 
yeah....but first off, sticks arent that popular in the states....and if they are, i dont have access to one....the hell am i gonna learn then?
 
Find a friend who's got a stick and have them teach you. There is a chance that they'll teach you the popular way of operating a manual transmission--which is typically the wrong way, in the sense that the way they use it will increase wear on all parts, whereas the proper way not only increases transmission parts' longevity, it also allows you to have more control over your car, accelerate more quickly and slow down more quickly. But even if you learn the "wrong" way, it'll be fine so you'll have a basic concept of how to operate the clutch, and you can just fine-tune your skills later. first car i had, 90 5.0, was stick.. i hopped right in to it.. and by the weekend i was doing donuts lmao

sticks are a blast to drive in the right car if you know what ur doing and dont do what u do in a dangerous manner
 
Stick only, 5 speed normal, MR is 6 speed. He has the 5 speed. Its mentioned in this thread.

The 5-speed is fine and plenty fast. Surprisingly, it actually gets better mpg than the 6-speed MR, which is kind of the opposite of common sense. The 6-speed would probably be the better choice only if the driver did a lot of autocrossing or something and used the car as a daily driver. Other than that, the regular IX is probably the better choice.
 
all EVOs are stick??? or did i just read duke's post wrong?? i doubt that kid that races around my house knows how to drive stick...
 
He said that even though he built it for handling purposes at racetracks and autocross events, he took it to a drag strip and did the quarter-mile in 10.1 seconds. But that was when his car was at "only" 650 hp or so.
 
Sick sick, that's sub 10 times right there. How much money did he spend on his car? Such volcanic power must come at a cost :)
