I was just going through some old tapes that I haven't listened to in probably 10-13 years. I'm going to be 28 in March and I grew up with all the 80's rap acts. Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Fat Boys, Fresh Prince, MC Hammer, Young MC, Public Enemy...the list goes on. For those of you who are my age or older, what 80's rap acts had the most impact on your life? I mean, what act(s) made you look at things differently, what acts made you like different kinds of rap music? What artists did you emulate?
For me it was all about Fat Boys, Fresh Prince, DMC and Young MC mostly. I had BB tapes and PE tapes, but the aforementioed names in the first sentence were the acts that REALLY made me decide that I loved rap music over anything else.
Some of my favorite 80's rap songs included:
Jellyroll -Fat Boys
My Adidas -DMC
Walk This Way -DMC ft. Aerosmith
Mary Mary -DMC
Beats To The Rhyme -DMC
Pricipals Office -Young MC
Fastest Rhyme -Young MC
Jailhouse Rap -Fat Boys
Wipe Out -Fat Boys
These were some of my faves. I was 3-13 from 1980-1990, so I wasn't really really into the political stuff like the PE's. I mean, I listened to them and I thought acts like that were the shit, but I never really listened deeply to the lyrics cuz I was a kid.
What's some of y'alls faves?
