actually, yeah, you are right. i found out today. when you install vista on hp computers, a format partition is made, but you can also make a recovery cd from the control panel. my mistake.LMFAO!!!^^^ i know..
and preach... i dunno if you have vista but vista does have a program that lets you actually make the copy of the backup cd.. actually, HP has made it in such a way that you can only do it from the HDD, there is no cd key given... i heard most computers do it this way...
Booting the utility thing didn't work.
I tried F8 and it took me to Windows Advanced Options Menu. But I didn't recovery sensole there neither.
This were the options there

safe mode with command prompt
enable boot logging
enable vga mode
last known good configur
directing services restore mode
debugging mode
desable automatic restart on systerm feilure
start windows normally
reboot

You format off the Windows XP CD. Command prompt only worked for Windows Me and older. You boot from cd and follow the instructions. Hit me on AIM if you need all the info. kristiancp1
Yea but if i'll format it off the CD, then wouldn't that delete C: drive AND D: drive also? I have files in D: drive and I don't want to delete that drive. Unless there is some way to avoid deleting D: drive.

No, you just delete the C: partition where the Operating system is and reinstall. You don't have to touch D:
