Where did it come from? It was one of the last pre-code films in hollywood. The Code came into effect in 1934, so the films that were being released right before the Code often pushed the bar higher for extremities such as violence and sexual innuendo. Scarface is extremely violent for it's time and it incorporated wonderful sound effects that were state of the art. Car chases, machine gun fights, alchohol smuggling. Wonderful gangster film.
