I don't tend to drink much soda. But in the shop today my curiosity gave in and I picked up this *limited edition* Orange flavored Coca-Cola since they've been advertising it so much.
It tasted like shit and I don't see why anyone would buy it over an actual orange soda such as Tango.
This led me to think, that especially when it comes to food, the term "Limited Edition" is just a safety net. I.E, if the product got a really positive response, they wouldn't take it off the shelves but at some point the words Limited Edition would be removed.
And if it gets a negative reponse, as I'm sure will be the case with this particular example, they can take it off the shelves as soon as the current batch of stock is sold, and then say "Well, it was only a limited edition".
Do you think that happens a lot and there's no such thing as a genuine "limited edition" these days? (When it comes to something disposable as opposed to something collectable)
Or am I being overly cynical here?
