I love AMD, but in my opinion, you get an AMD if you want gaming. Intel is more for 'office work' kind of usage.
I have an amd platform at home but they just suck in laptops. Intel has better mobile technologies.
Lenovo bought out IBM so they basically sell IBM laptops manufactured by a Chinese company with their own logo. You can often see "IBM/Lenovo" on their laptops. Lenovo 'T series' = top quality.

i dont think i need a blu ray drive either. i doubt i will be watching many blu rays. i hardly watch dvds as it is. I eould probably save a lot of money by going for a laptop with just a DVD/RW drive.

Quick question, I have an intel centrino processor, is that any good?
Compaq is owned by HP, Compal is a Chinese (or Vietnamese?) brand producing cheap but fast laptops.
Intel Centrino is not a processor, it is a platform. Is it Centrino or Centrino duo or Centrino 2? Usually Centrinos used decent Pentium processors. I have one of the first Centrino IBM laptops. It's made on an outdated Pentium M processor (2mb cache, 1,7ghz Dothan core) - really, really power saving and still great for everything. It was made in 2004 but is on par or sometimes even better than modern lower end laptop processors (like Celeron M, Semprons and even some Athlons).
But processor is not everything. A Radeon 7500 graphics in it is worse than many modern integrated graphics.
Yeah, mobile version of it was created in 2003 or so
But it's used in many first Centrino platforms as a high end graphics at that time (considering that most integrated graphic cards in 2004 were barely able to run gta3 while radeon 7500 handles GTa san andreas on high details).Bobby: If you're still looking for a budget laptop seriously look at the Lenovo Y530. It's a pretty amazing device with a Geforce 9300 graphics and an Intel dual core processor. It's cheap, good quality, has a decent battery life and is good for games and other multimedia stuff:

i wont be playing any games on it except maybe Football Manager, so im not too bothered by what type of graphics card is in it.

Y530 is also quite popular here.
I doubt that blu-ray will be popular in the upcoming years. Maybe in 2-3 years blu-ray will start becoming a standard, that'll be the time when its prices drop to a reasonable amount.. I guess that it'll be at least 4-5 years till it'll become what dvd is now.
Well... if you want performance and space and good service, get a Lenovo IBM. Flipside is that you'll look like an accountant. I have one, love it, god damn ugly computer though.
Other PCs that are great are Acers. God damn good laptops. Space, looks, power, reliable.
Dells are okay, but the aftersale service is not good at all.

Actually most companies produce good and bad models. Lenovo is the most reliable, HP is good, while Toshiba and Acer ones are those that often get fucked. Acer used to make really, really terrible products. Now they got much better but still their products feel and act cheap. Macs are on the better side, Dell is somewhere in the middle. They had a few faulty models though.
@Bobby I have no idea where you can get one in Ireland. Try any bigger computer store. I think that most Lenovo models will serve you well. The worst model which is the n200 is still good compared to other companies low-end models.
