What brands would you recommend? What brands should i steer clear of? The one im looking at now is a Sony Vaio. Its seems to be very good value considering the specifications.

If you're looking for something cheap, yet pretty reliable, go for a generic Dell.

I know someone that has a Sony Vaio, waste of money. For the price (More than 1000, I think), it's really not worth it.

If you want something that will prob never die on you, and need it for school, or whatever, get a MacBook (and this is coming from someone that hates all that is Apple Computer)

Why whats wrong with Sony Vaio? the one im looking at has a 2 ghz core 2 duo processor, 4 gb ram, and a 250 gb hard drive. Its about 600 euros. The other options i am considering are Hewlett Packard, Toshiba and Dell. I have my Dell desktop pc for 8 years now and hasnt given me any bit of trouble apart from viruses ( which are my own fault for looking at dodgy porn sites :embarresd: ).

here is the sony one:

Sony VAIO NS11J/S VGN-NS11J/S.CEK - Laptops Direct

Toshiba:

Toshiba Satellite Pro U400-15I PSU45E-00J005EN - Laptops Direct

HP:

Hewlett Packard G60-215EM Laptop NG444EA - Laptops Direct

^^i had a gateway desktop before this one. i got it in 1996 i think. The hard drive went on it after 5 years.piece of shit. might be best stay away from Sony Vaio so. thanks.

^^nah man, wont be playing games on it at all. I play all my games on the xbox 360 these days. I just need it for doing AutoCAD and MS Office stuff. Id prefer to have a Core 2 Duo processor in it but this one will do.

These days, everybody either gets an HP, a Dell, or a Sony Vaio if they got the cheese. I don't like any of them.

not bad the one you picked bobby.

btw all new models of laptop have blu ray. its a shame i bought mine 8 months too early. but then again... blu ray on a laptop? screen is too small. maybe not worth it.

The graphic card in that is not bad, its radeon hd.

but it's still an integrated graphics card..

Hp is the best quality for money right now. If you want more quality go for Lenovo but you won't get as good one for the same price. If you want a better spec laptop but of a bit worse quality go for Compal.

Also, AMD processors suck in laptops. It drains shitloads of energy. Core duos or Pentiums are much better for laptops.
If you want the BEST powerful and power saving set go for a Centrino 2 platform.
