In hindsight I can’t help but feel that MGK “won” and Eminem “lost”

It wasn’t until someone in the top 5 albums of 2018 thread mentioned Kamikaze that I remembered Eminem even released an album.

At the time I thought it was dope but in hindsight... meh... the album and beef kind of went no where. Was there even a second single or video? Just very meh. Came and went. No real impact and it didn’t turn into a great year for Eminem. Just kind of was.

MGK on the other hand, I am sure got a lot more exposure from the beef than he had before, and I’m sure made more money from music than he ever had in the past. And now to finish the year off with the success of Netflix’s Bird Box...

MGK had the much better year.

If we're talking about the diss tracks themselves, then Eminem won.

But if we're honest, Eminem will never peak back to the days of his first three albums and 8 Mile era. His career trajectory has hit a plateau and it will remain flat no matter what at this point. He can still make great records but his whole thing was shock value and we've seen it endless times at this point.

MGK is still basically unknown worldwide, he's never had any crossover success. So this was always gonna do more for him in terms of PR.

So yeah, I sort of agree with you at this point in terms of PR. The flavor of hip-hop being mumble rap right now, means that the entire concept of diss tracks, and especially the way Eminem does them, seems sort of old school.
