The Ghetto (M40)
This thread is mainly aimed at the people who live in the UK, but all opinions are welcome...

Me and a mate were discussing this scheme this morning, still slightly pissed... but it got me thinking, if there are any people for this scheme....

What are your opinions on the "ID card scheme" the government are trying to get rolling?

Personally I dont agree that the ID card would be a good idea. The amount of shit they are planning to do, and the type of information they are planning to collect on each individual is a bit over the top...And Tony can lick my balls if he thinks im gonna fork out for one... If he wants me to have one, he can give in to me for free!

Below ive put a few points on shit i dont like about the scheme...

1.) The proposed price of the ID cards was initially priced at £93. But a private draft report said that the 10yr plan to introduce them could cost the government upto £18bn and not £5.8bn like the official proposal said. This increase brings the prices of the cards to £300 each!... now... to me, paying £93 is way over the top... never mind £3 - fucking - 00. In my opinion if these ID's are going to be enforced on us, the government shouldnt be expecting the general public to cough up for them. Especially at that price.... (The private draft was put together by a team at the London School Of Ecnomics, and published by the Observer Newspaper.)

2.) The Biometric scans of finger prints, and facial features (ie retinal scans) are being considered to be included in the card... Fuck that!... I dont mind them having my date of birth, name, address, phone number etc... but i think they are taking it a little bit far with the scans, DNA fingerprints and things like that. These biometric scanners are also have to be paid for... i dont think Tony is gonna delve into his back pocket for the shit... The cards are supposed to updated every 10years if they come into force... All techinal and scientific biometric characteristics diminishes over time... and to keep an upto-date log of the changes, the renewal of cards will have to take place every 5 years!.... Thus, an increase in administration fees... Which the public will have to pay for...

3.) The draft also said that the proposal made by the government hadnt considered all the factors, like changes of address etc... This is a major problem as the price of this administration would sky rocket the schemes initial price (£5.8bn.)

Its funny how the home office havent put a definate figure on things... Just an estimate..."a round-a-bout value"... "Its comericially sensitive" they say... they have refused to tell us the real figures, because Tony doesnt want to scare people with the actual price... In time if he gets his way, our asses are gonna get robbed!

4.) The compulsary carrying of the cards would worsen the harassment of ethnic minorities... They’ll provide another pretext for police stop-and-search, often directed at ethnic minorities. And fuck me, when i had my car... the amount of times i got pulled over because they were doing a "random" check... (13 times in 2 months)

5.) The cards are supposed to combat terrorism, but to be honest i think over time they will have little impact in countering it. Sophisticated terror networks would soon be able to produce counterfeit cards or papers enabling people to get legitimate cards!

6.) They will have little effect on illegal immigrants who are already willing to break the law by staying in this country to work. These people will not be put off by the identity cards scheme... come on, some of these illegal immigrants have risked their lives to come over here. Do Tony Blair and Charles Clarke really think a person from a warn torn country, who has lost all his close family and survived a journey in a lorry for thousands of miles, is gonna turn back once he finds out he hasnt got an ID card waiting for him at dover reception... I think not...

7.) The cards WILL lead to ‘function creep’. The functions of the card will grow over time as it stores more personal information. More people WILL demand to see it (ie shops), effectively making it compulsory to carry one

9.) They will also lead to loss of privacy. There will be a massive database containing an unprecedented amount of personal information on people... In a decade or so, it wouldnt surprise me if the government wanted to see what the size of every mans manlyhood is.

(Please excuse the spelling, punctuation and grammatical mistakes)

I'm against them & the quicker Scotland gets independence, the quicker we won't have to deal with this type of bullshit :)

Can't say I'm bothered cos it's a silly idea. I heard that thing about it's gonna take them 50 years to do all the cards. What's the point in that?

The thing is, we've already got "illegal aliens" (the only good thing to come out of America was this term) here in the UK. Giving out ID cards will not affect them because they're already bloody here. Now unless we're asked for them every 5 minutes, they won't be rustled. And unless they use scare tactics (a la USA) then most people will not be arsed with them. I mean, what's someone going to do, refuse to serve you & call the police? Or take your cash & laugh about how much of a nuisance ID cards are?

I'm not sure how pratical that will be. Besides all the people who won't be carrying them 24/7, say you did have it but you were in a car crash - there's a big chance you won't have it with you anymore.

Same with if you got mugged & got stabbed - the mofos may've taken your ID card, so wtf aer you supposed to do?!

IF the system worked (ie all legal citizens had a card containing biometric info, and this was centrally databsed and accessable by authoraties..) it would cut down on illegal immigrants...

although at the moment the cost seems prohibative

Its not gonna stop the flow of illegal immigrants... is it! think about it...

To combat a problem, You must confront the source!

Bringing in ID cards wont do shit... apart from piss people off...

Just for arguments sake, the ID scheme is up and running, and every is carrying ID cards around with them! The only way the government is going to clamp down on illegal immigrants this way, is to get the police force to stop and ID everyone!... Most illegal immigrants come from African countries, deprived countires in Asia (ie China, India, Pakistan,) as well as all the warn torn countries... The majority of illegal immigrants, due to where they come from have non-white skin!... Is it fair to stop every none white person in the street, just to make sure they are not an illegal immigrant?.... I think not!...

I know what you're saying but besides the cost, people will have their privacy invaded & tbh, this is more & more appearing to me to be like a fucking draft!

You know that way where you might say that you'd rather go to jail or die than go fight in a war you don't believe in? Well, I'm starting to get that feeling about these ID cards which also look to take my freedom from me.

That shit sounds ridiculous to me.

To Combat terrorism? Ha. The terrorists will have legitimate cards made with false info in no time.

This wont do shit to the illegal imigrants

I think Tony the Tiger is out of his fuckin mind.

If you got nothing to hide, whats the problem? They already know enough about you, what the fuck does a DNA sample matter?

What if you do have something to hide?

What if you - or persons close to you - are involved in crime? :(
