do you ever come across products like these...where they are meatless products labeled or described as tasting like meat...

so i just wonder...if these products are taste and look like real meat products dont they kinda encourage people who are vegetarians to eat back meat?...like why even have to make it have any resemeblence to meat in the first place?

They have those products because a lot of ppl who want to eat healthy, don't want to give up the taste of meat. With this they can get their taste for meat satisfied without eating meat. If they didn't have this, they would be more tempted to go back to the real thing just for missing the taste. Get it now?

Ideally, they should slowly wean themselves off the taste completely.

And if you haven't had meat in a while, this stuff comes pretty close to tasting like it. Depends on the brand though. I gave what I thought was the best vegatarian burgers ever to some meat eaters without telling them, and they didn't notice.

thnz for the explanation Jokerman...but if they want to eat healthy but dont want to compromise taste of meat...why just not continue to eat meats but in moderation or change to lean meats?

yah...some of those veggie burgers taste like salisbury steak because of whey they grilled...

Because the fat issue is not the only health issue related to meat. Meat producers also give growth hormones to the animals to stimulate growth and add antibiotics to their feed because they are usually raised in un-hygienic over-crowded conditions. These chemicals get stored in the animals body and then we wind up eating it. Do we need growth-stimulating hormones for calves in us? What is it doing to us?

Also, a lot of vegetarians hate the idea of eating animals. They don't believe in the slaughter of animals in the current inhumane conditions that are in place. But they grew up with the taste of meat and want it. So these products are for them.

My mum is a vegetarian and she eats the meatless sausages, the reason is, when we have barbeques and stuff, there is nothing for her to eat....this way, she can maintain her meat-free diet, but also add something substantial to it other than salad and bread as well as to a certain extent "fit in" with what everyone else is eating....I guess it just makes vegos feel less like freaks, lol.

im vegan and i eat stuff like that once in a blue moon, but its processed bullshit so i try to stay away from it

most of those things have whey protein, or eggs or modified milk ingrediants in them so i cant eat them anyways

there is this smoked wheat thing that they sell thats like smoked meat and its pretty crazy but most of the others i dont like

and those products are mostly for people who went veg for health reasons and miss eating the meat, i went veg just beacause i wasnt feeling the ideas of eating dead bodies anymore, and all the tastes from meats usually come from the way they are seasoned, marinated or spiced up etc, so i just do the same shit with tofu
