My notebook kicked ass. Big hard drive, fast processor, lots of RAM, wasn't too heavy. It's gotten me As and Ass. It's an amazingly intelligent machine, and an asshole like me, so it decided to stop working when I needed it most - finals period last semester. So I dropped it off to Best Buy in mid-December, expecting to get it back before I went back to New Orleans.
Wrong.
It got lost in transit to Best Buy's service center in California, where it stayed even longer than intended because parts needed to be ordered. No big deal - I talked to those smart Geek Squad guys, and asked them to have it sent down to the Best Buy nearest to me (Veterans Blvd, what) instead of the one back home. I'd have a few days of inconvenience, but I'd get it back before classes got too heated.
Wrong.
They sent it to my mom. Not even the local Best Buy, who could reroute, but to my mom. Great. My mom also kicks ass, though, so she went to the post office and told them to make haste. The USPS needs exercise, though. What's a better way to practice than to send my notebook to New Orleans, back to northern Virginia, to New Orleans again, and then back to Virginia one more time for good measure?
USPS refused to refund my mother her money, and she took it to UPS. I've never had a problem with brown before. So they sent it down. My mom also sent down a surprise for me - a sexy 20" LCD TV to make up for my own TV not fitting in my new car. (It's not HD, so it's sexiness is limited, but hey, campus doesn't offer HD programming anyway).
So I finally receive my notebook. I didn't realize that assembly was required, though - you have to put all the keys into the keyboard yourself, push the plastic pieces back into what resembles a normal shape, and even so there might be some giant scratches on the screen and the battery might not fit properly into whatever you call the thing you stick it in (the female part?).
I'm not mad about the scratches, though. They don't affect my viewing experience at all, because the display doesn't work at all anymore. Whew!
So I really can't check my e-mail. Can't go on the Web. Can't take those online quizzes.
Good thing it only took UPS a week to receive my insurance claim. And it's a good thing someone will be around in another week or so to verify my claim. Of course, they're already claiming it's my mom's fault for not packing properly (she paid them to pack it for her). And the poor woman insured the laptop for $400 less than what I paid for it.
