Have you tried updating, clearing the cache or cookies? Maybe even a re-install?

I have a suspicion that its not a fault of either GMail or Opera, but more likely one of the XML scripts I run in Opera to remove ads.

ah. i had a similar problem with NoScript in Firefox, and then I got fed up of all the parsing and monitoring.
