I like all the new design changes that Google is doing with gmail, g+, reader, docs, calendar, etc.

Me too, and there's consistency between the new Google web UI's and the Android ICS UI's... check out the new G+ app to see what I mean. This is a good thing.
 
At first I saw pictures and I really liked it, then I applied it and didn't really like it, then I tuned at a bit and like it again. It's all about customization for me now. Because for example new Gmail looks a bit scary out of the box but then when you tune it a bit it gets really much better and I like the change.

Since we're talking about Gmail I have a problem now.
I used to use my gmail account mostly to sign up for services that required an email address and such. I linked it to my Youtube account and all others. I thought that some day I will just create a different, personal gmail account. The problem is that all aliases that I could potentially take are.. already taken (I'd have to go for name+surname+9842143120312 or something and that wouldn't be a good way to go). So I guess the best solution for me would be to use my old account. So, the problem here is that I get really a lot of spam e-mails every day on that account. My inbox is mostly safe because of gmail's awesome spam filters but I get about 20 spam emails in my spam box. Since sometimes important mails get miscategorized and end up in the spam box it's really annoying and I'm kind of stuck. Yeah, I had to get that out of my chest, I'd love Google to introduce some sort of solution.
 
Or, you could grow up and use a real name in your email address like every other mature, grown man.

yeah, that's what I said I want to do. I want to use my name + surname but they are all taken, the Polish version of my name, English version of my name and I wouldn't want my address to be like realfirstname+realsurname3947124@gmail.com . With all those numbers that doesn't even look like a serious e-mail address.

edit: holy cow, I just checked and they are available!
There's a new problem, pretty hard for me, easier to solve for you foreigners probably so I will ask for your opinion (especially Slavic guys). I'm not sure if I should go for the Polish version of my name or the English one. Polish is Szymon but direct English translation would be Simon (I use that everywhere abroad and for Facebook). I guess I'd give the address to people from abroad too and I'm pretty sure that "Szymon" would be harder for you guys. As a matter of fact I might use it even more with English-speaking people in the future. But then again my surname might be a problem too. I don't want to create shitloads of email accounts for different situations. I'd like to have one, main private e-mail address only for friends and private conversations. What do you guys think? Sofi? Your last name is Slavic too, your first name is easy for Americans though.

This might be silly but I plan on making this my main private email address and finally stick with it and that's a strategic planning issue. I will use it for friends (including new-met people here and abroad, and I plan on going there quite a lot in the future) but perhaps also to contact with more serious people.
 
As you know, my name has a J in a common English name. I would never, never, ever, take the J out of it so that it appears American/English. I'd rather get fucked by the Ottomans.

So, that's my stance on the matter. I'd understand if you were Korean and your name was SHAOSANG and wanted to be Jessica. I'd understand that. But not in your situation. Just stick with the realness, man.

Thanks. Still, your name is much easier for Americans than mine and in the end I'm fine with "Simon". That's how most people end up calling me anyway and if I were to live abroad I'd probably change it to Simon. Same name really, just different language and Polish version is impossible to pronounce for Americans, so they either pronounce it Simon anyway or start trying to do it properly and come up with really weird things. Most of all I have to spell it letter by letter when I have to give my real first name and I wanted to avoid that with my email address, but then again I'd probably have to do that with surname anyway. On another hand at times Simon may look kind of weird here.
But most of all I use "Simon" + surname in the signature whenever I send emails abroad.
I'll have to think about it. A perfect solution would be if Google allowed aliases, or at least one other alias for every gmail account so I could receive emails addressed for both. I could achieve that by creating 2 separate gmail accounts but that's not how I wanted to achieve it.
 
i switched to the new layout with the black theme. looks nice. but i had to put the density back to normal for this monitor. can't wait until i get my new monitor. i want a better resolution.

also, i just discovered a nice feature in the new gmail. i was writing an email and i wrote 'please find attached a copy of the document'. i forgot to attach it, and as i clicked send, a Gmail popup said that they detected the phrase 'find attached' and asked if i want to attach the document or just send it as it is. clever little feature.
 
It might be enabled by default now whereas before you may have had to enable it in labs.

I cant get my emails to display in Opera. Everything works, I can see my inbox etc etc, but when I go to read an email, all it displayed is the sender, subject line and reply box. The actual email itself doesnt appear, so im having to switch to firefox to read my emails :(
