Im kind of confused, will it work in nz...i ask this because of the power issues..i have a Usa to Nz Converter for the power socket..do i need a Transformer..can anyone who knows anything about these things help me out? Will my PS3 Explode?..!

Here is a small part of Wikipedia Explaining the power consumption:

Form and power consumption

The power consumption of the initial PlayStation 3 units based on 90nm Cell CPU ranges from 170–200 watts during normal use, despite having a 380 watt power supply. The power consumption of newer PlayStation 3 units, range from 120-140 watts during normal use.

Universal power supply

The console has a universal power unit built in which makes a 120 V PlayStation 3 suitable in a 240 V region. The power supply can operate on both 60 Hz and 50 Hz power grids. It uses a standard C14 IEC connector and a C13 power cord appropriate for the region being used in. Some consoles, however, read 220v~240v 1.8a which are not universal. The power supply is capable of delivering approximately 380W, although the PS3 has never been measured using this much energy.

What is the voltage of electricity supply in New Zealand? Do I need to take a converter?

Electricity is supplied throughout New Zealand at 230/240 volts (50 hertz), although most hotels and motels provide 110 volt AC sockets (rated at 20 watts) for electric razors only.

For all other equipment, an adapter/converter is necessary, unless the item has a multi-voltage option. Please note that power outlets only accept flat three or two-pin plugs, depending on whether an earth connection is fitted.

---------------

Assuming the information you provided above is correct, it seems the PS3 does have a multi-voltage power supply. However, like specified in the text above, certain consoles only support one type of voltage. Your best bet is to explain your problem to whichever person you opt to buy it from and make it a condition for your purchase that he can guarantee that it works. You could also try and give Sony US a call, there's very likely some sort of customer support hotline where you could ask that question.

i needed a transformer when i used to use my american PSX when i moved back to the uk. however thats because it only had a mains lead, new consoles, like the psp, ps3 and 360, like laptops come with an AC/DC adaptor instead, as long as you are using the right ac/dc adaptor, you should be fine.
