TUBE ATTACK SUSPECTS RAID

Four men have been arrested under anti-terrorism laws in connection with last Thursday's London Tube attacks.

One of the men is thought to have been part of the gang behind the failed assault on the city on July 21.

He has been taken to London's high-security Paddington Green police station and the area around the scene of the raid, the Hay Mills area of Birmingham, evacuated while a suspect package was detonated.

All the men were held by armed police in two separate raids across Birmingham.

The man taken to Paddington Green was hit with a Taser gun during the arrest but no gunshots were fired during the swoop, carried out jointly by West Midland and Metropolitan police.

Shortly afterwards, the officers carried out a second raid at an address in the Washwood Heath area.

Three men were arrested, again under the Terrorism Act 2000, and are being held in the West Midlands area.

Forensic examinations are being carried out at both addresses.

On Tuesday night, two more men were arrested in the Grantham area of Lincolnshire while travelling on a train from Newcastle to London.

The arrests came as Scotland Yard Police chief Sir Ian Blair vowed to catch those behind last week's planned attacks on London.

He also revealed that there had been 250 bomb scares in the capital since the fatal blasts of July 7.

TUBE SUSPECT CAUGHT HOPE

Anti-terrorist police are thought to have snared a man suspected of being one of the would-be suicide bombers who targeted London.

He was one of four men seized by around 50 armed police in connections with last Thursday's failed Tube attacks during dawn raids.

The man was fired on with a stun gun during the swoop on an address in the Hay Mills area of Birmingham before being whisked away to London's high-security Paddington Green police station.

Residents said he looked like one of the men seen in photographs of suspects issued by police after the July attack.

Bomb disposal experts also carried out a controlled explosion near the scene after discovering a suspect package.

The operation was quickly followed by another just a short distance away in Washwood Heath.
