First Single (Feat. Bone Thugs) (Radio Rip)

Another thing I dont understand is why the hell people are complaining about songs not being "hard" enough or "gangsta" enough. There isnt anythign wrong with sensitive sounding songs once in a while.

Exactly, once in a while. Pac's main singles have been soft since Changes.

Its also nice to have a hard single once and a while.

I think everyone's just jumping to conclusions, a new remix leaks and everyone immediately assumes it's the single. "Thugs Get Lonely Too" was the first track that leaked from LTTG, but it wasn't really a single if you think about it, they didn't even make a video for it. I say calm down until Pittsey drops that interview, then get mad if it ends up being the single. :)

Uh, when did this happen? I was not aware of this.

dante put out an og vibe for loyal to the game about a few months after L2TG dropped. it's pretty cool, and it actually takes some of the better beats Eminem had on the songs and uses the OG acapellas. the result is actually quite awesome. contact him and see if he can hook you up.

Why not give Pac a sound and feel that is consistent with the last album he had direct control over?

They (they being Amaru) are under the impression that the beats and sounds of those days are "aged" when in reality the still-ever-present popularity of the albums of those eras proves that such a style is timeless. the pre-deathrow stuff might be a bit too rough on the ears for most mainstream hip-hop fans, but the death row unreleased stuff is certainly releaseable in its original form. and i agree with you.

What happened to going with some of the original producers for this album? I don't like this mix and I hope this isn't a representation of the direction for this album. It just doesn't sound like Pac to me. It is true that we don't know what direction Pac's music would have taken if he was still alive, but we do know what his style was directly prior to his death. I'd like to hear an album that has a Makaveli feel to it. Why not give Pac a sound and feel that is consistent with the last album he had direct control over?
Makaveli came out 10 years ago man. Believe it or not in the mainstream and industries eyes, that album is dated.

Believe me, I wish the OGs would just be released, but remixing them to sound like Makaveli albums would be even worse, and take away from a classic.

I have to disagree with you man, California love and Nuthin but a G Thang will in fact be timeless classic records (not just in hip-hop, but across all musical genre’s). "Get Low" and "Saltshaker" will not. If you believe crunk music is anything more than a fad you’re disillusioned. Crunk music is like boybands, no one really takes them serously but hey, people still like to dance.

amen :thumb: i totally agree

on another note, this piece of shit reminds me of that chapelle's show skit

Songs like Cali Love and Nothing But A G Thang are classic, but they would simply not work if released today. They are still good because of the nostalgia they have and the memories.

In my opinion, singles like Still Tippin and What You Know About That are just as good single wise.

The kids from today will remember current singles with as much passion as we do the ones from the 90s.

I respect your opinion; clearly we’re not going to see eye to eye on this. I’m not trying to insult, discredit or defame the acclaim and success that “crunk” type music has attained in recent years BUT to get back to you’re original statement that the “crunk” music of today is the same as G-Funk was during the 90’s I just cant let that one go.

First off, you cant be seriously be comparing “Still tippin” and “what you know about that” to “California Love” and “Nuthin but a ‘G Thang.” I mean do you remember when those songs came out? They were groundbreaking, genre changing, trend setting, and artistically flawless pieces of art that blew EVERYONE away. For Christ sakes Snoop and Dre were on the cover or people, time, rolling stone you name it. When California love hit it was on MTV 24fuckin7 all over the radio… it was uncontrollable. I remember my parents knew of the song and the video. People who didn’t like rap bought All Eyez on Me because of California Love. Honestly, when you wrote “still tippin” I had to think for a second what the hell song you were talking about. I don’t know if you’re from the south or what but as far as the rest of the country is concerned (and I would have to assume the world) those songs were just radio singles man. They were catchy songs that had radio appeal. You think in 5 years anyone is really going to remember who Mike Jones is? (I dont think most people know of him now lol)

...well said. as someone who listened to hip hop in the golden era (1980-1996) i cannot stand crunk as to me it is largely devoid of all message and meaning - which is why hip hop evolved in the first place. crunk has its time and place, but 2pac was 2pac because he had a voice. even in his booty shaking songs he still had some powerful lines. i can honestly say i have never listened to still tippin all the way through. it just nauseates me.

...and now, well i am just disgusted with this n00bish fuckin mix with airhorns (hi, dj butta), awkward breaks (hello, dj vlad) and gunshots (hi, whoo kid). if there is another song like this on the album they might have lost me as a fan of post 2005 2pac.

it's a fuckin shame and i hope someone looked up to the sky and apologized to pac for this abomination after they came down off their i-just-remixed-a-2pac-record high.

Hip-Hop is in a totally different state back then. Cali love was not ground breaking, it did nothing new production wise; it was just a dope Dre beat. The success of Cali Love had more to do with the time it was released and the situation surrounding its release. It is a great song, but if some unknown rapper released it today, it would not be as big a hit.

As for my statement on Crunk and G Funk, it really is the same. Hyphy or example is pretty much crunk but from Cali so lets use those two examples to keep away from West vs. South comparisons.

G Funk changed the way hip-hop was made, it was a new style, nothing like it had been done before. Hyphy/Crunk changed the way hip hop was made, its a new style, nothing like it had been done before.

G Funk was hated on by Hip-Hop purists because it was more party-ish than the traditional New York lyric driven formula. Hyphy/Crunk is hated on by Hip-Hop purists because it is more party-ish than the traditional Hip-Hop.

G Funk was hated on for its drug promotion. Hyphy/Crunk is hated on for its drug promotion (Hyphy with X and Crunk with syrup for example.)

It is the same situation, Im not comparing them on their musical merrits, simply on the situation they are faced with; and the next new thing will be hated on by all the Hip-Hop purists who grew up on Hyphy and Crunk.

g-funk was only hated on by east coast backpackers with sticks up their tight cypha asses.

crunk is anyman hip hop. every man wants to be a rapper and if you say who, what, and huh enough yes, YOU can be a crunk rapper too! bling for everyone.

not.

nothing personal rukas, but you might be too young to fully appreciate the perspective of some of the critics. i'm 30 and was present for a very different time in hip hop's growth.

Total bullshit.

They said the exact same thing about G Funk!! "If you talk about guns bitches and 40s you can be a gangsta rapper."

Same shit.

i was on the east and the west coasts during the birth of g-funk and i never saw that from anyone but faggot uptight crate diggers.

the whole point was the g-funk was non-violent chill music that contrasted gangsta rap but used many of he same elements. it was palatable.

i think my experience differs from yours because there is over 7 years age difference. i remember hip hop's transitions from bambatta, to dmc, when it moved west, and beyond... maybe that's why i hate this modern diet sprite bullshit.

Right, and I can easily say I dont hear that from anyone except faggot uptight Golden Era purists.

Once again, let me say, same shit.

i'd wear that label as a badge of honor.

bullshit "modern" (mainstream) hip hop that teaches nothing but exploitation and emptiness should not be revered in my opinion.

who are the voyers who are reading our comments and doing nothing but jerking off to some anime porn?

As sad as this sounds, if Amaru was totally set on making this new single a "crunk" track, they might as well have gotten Lil Jon to produce it since he has quite a successful track record as far as that type of music goes. I CANNNOT believe that they inserted that douche bag Swizz into a 2Pac project. It was just like hearing that punkass Jadakiss on lttg all over again. Some people just simply don't belong anywhere near 2Pac's music and Swizz is definitely one of them.

Believe me I know where you are coming from. But I think you're too harsh on modern music. I prefer your Golden Era, but I also know that if I was young now, THIS would be MY Golden Era, its all relative man.

Cali Love was a 100% bullshit single content wise; you had too look at other songs on All Eyez On Me to get depth. And yes eventually I Aint Mad At Cha was a single, but most albums today can not afford as many singles as AEOM got. Every album has bullshit songs and good songs, back then and now.

Personally I wouldnt even compare Pac, because there is no Pac like rapper today, and there was none back then either. Id use examples like Snoop with todays modern era rappers; Pac is kind of an unfair comparison to ANYONE of ANY era ;).

Doggystyle had as much bullshit as say.... TI's King for example.

Anyway Im gonna pop this single on my IPOD right behind Slim Thugs album and walk my ass to the store.

Of course, it's awful, but I take it over Ghetto Gospel. That does not mean they should be releasing Pac's music like this though.

It’s more about the difference in creativity. Crunk music really is the lowest common denominator of appealing music; overly simplified, consistent instrumentation with lyrics devoid of anything that evokes sentiment, cognitive processing or reflection. When a person hears this type of music they react to it the same way you would the sound of the ocean or a busy city: soothing or jarring. It’s why so many Crunk artists yell and make animal noises, its because it doesn’t require any mental processing to absorb. In essence it’s easy listening hip-hop music, and while it may be popular it will never be remembered for the things it isn’t: highly musical, artistically redeeming, creative genius ness at work.

Right, because Snoop's Doggystyle, one of the best albums G Funk wise, is totally artistically redeeming, creative genius ness at work...

Have you ever paid attention to the lyrics of Whats My Name for example?

Do you think that history will ever compare Lil Jon's production on "get low" to Dr. Dre's on "what’s my name?"
