Well, well. How about that. Arsenal was the weaker side during the match but still took it.

It seems the ancient football rule has surfaced it's head, it's quite simple:

IF you want to win, you have to make that goal. And if you don't, they will.

Good job, Arsenal.

Can ya say mugged?

Man utd played better, Arsenal rarely threatened.

Unlucky to lose on Penalties, Congratz Arsenal.

Ronaldo was amazing, imo shud have gotten the Man of the match, not Rooney.

Ps: Ronaldo makes it cool to cry :)

Sweet mother of God if United don't win this it is a TRAVESTY.
:thumb: Oh how it was. We should have won over and over again. Arsenal were clearly outclassed. If anything this gives me a lot more hope for next season. With a proper goalie and maybe Essien added to our squad, we should do very well. Let Arsenal have their "glory" it's all the success they'll be seeing for a good while to come.

P.S. Rooney & Ronaldo were fucking OUTSTANDING.

Well, I was pleased with the outcome.

Arsenal looked shit but still won resulting in Rio shedding a tear or two - for the FA cup? I know, what a fucking little girl!

Like I say, Arsenal were shitter than shit. Even looking past the absence of Henry & the naiveness of playing Bergkamp as the main striker through the middle, Arsenal just couldn't get to grips with United.

That said, United were pretty good - possibly near their best give or take one or two performances (Carroll CAN be solid Ruud can, obviously, be deadly). Most of the team was playing very well though & they were tactically on-point.

But with Arsenal looking incapable of recapturing their past level of football & United looking still short of the level they played to during their days of domination, it looks good for Chelsea.

Penalties sucks! I say sudden death, make the fuckers earn their pay checks and play until someone scores or they all colapse!

Player for player United have as good a squad or better than Chelsea's. With the addition of a proper goalkeeper and hopefully Essien it will be a very close title race next year, providing Fergie can actually motivate the team.

Discounting the goalkeeper, who will be replaced anyway, of course we do. Let's compare.

Man United:

Rio Ferdinand

Gabriel Heinze

Gary Neville

Wes Brown

John O'Shea

Mikeal Silvestre

Ronaldo

Roy Keane

Darren Fletcher

Paul Scholes

Ryan Giggs

Ruud van Nistelrooy

Wayne Rooney

Alan Smith

Pound for pound each Manchester United player is the equal of his Chelsea opposite. The big problem this season is they didn't perform up to standard. If they do (as they did yesterday) they're more than a match for anyone including Chelsea. As they showed against Liverpool without people like Duff they're not as great as the hype would suggest. A very good team yes but definitely beatable.

There is 'sudden death' played for 30 minutes once the original 90 minutes (plus injury time) has elapsed.

Then penalties are brought into play.

Cech & Cudicini >>>> Howard & Carroll & probably any keeper United propose to sign.

Ferreira, Gallas, Johnson, Bridge, Terry, Carvalho & Huth. 7 defenders to United's 6 & United have no claims of supremacy so quanitity does matter here. Although, it is noted that you left out Phil Neville.

Makelele, Lampard, Tiago, Cole, Duff, Robben, Geremi, Smertin & Jarosik & Parker. 10 midfielders to United's 5. And while Makelele can match up with Keane & Lampard with Scholes, Robben is better than Ronaldo & Giggs & Duff is their equal. And all the midfielders named here are at least equal to Fletcher with at least 5 being undeniably better.

Drogba, Kezman, Gudjohnsen, Forssell. 4 strikers to United's 3. Now, none of these guys are as good as Ruud. Kezman would have the best chance of matching Ruud - if he were on form. On current form, Rooney is a better player than these guys but I wouldn't place him above Gudjohnsen in terms of hitting the back of the net - keep in mind, the Iceman played in midfield this season. However, I believe all the Chelsea strikers to be better than Smith.

It also worthwhile to note that Chelsea have Veron & Crespo at their disposal too.

Let's not forget to put this in context either: Chelsea have the funds to vastly improve their squad any time the transfer window is open. United do not have this luxury. So if either team is going to be improved through transfers, Chelsea are the more likely. Also, a few of those you named are not getting any younger. Neville, Keane & Scholes will all be very hard to replace. Obviously, Keane is the only one impending but still, how can United improve when they do not have the resources to replace their best players?

United are purchasing a new keeper this summer so let's wait and see. It will be hard to purchase a keeper as good as Cech but hopefully Fergie has a few tricks up his sleeve.

On defence I agree that it's about equal, perhaps even a slight advantage to Chelsea. I left out Neville as he's more of a utility player these days as opposed to an out and out defender.

Duff is better than Robben and Giggs is as good or better than both. Ronaldo is steadily developing and is almost at their level if not quite yet. In the centre, it's Fletcher, Keane, Scholes, Kleberson & Miller against Makelele, Lampard, Geremi, Smertin & Parker. In my view United have the upperhand here. Although Lampard is the equal of any United player Fletcher, Keane, Scholes & possibly Kleberson if he regains form, are all superior players to Makelele, Geremi, Smertin & Parker. Remember United also have the advantage of an impending purchase of Essien from Lyon, if the papers are to be trusted.

Forsell is not as good as Smith or even Saha. Gudjohnsen is talented but not a classic out and out strker. United clearly have the advantage here. Rooney (shaping up to be possibly England's greatest ever striker) is better than Drogba and as you've pointed out no-one measures up to an in-form Ruud.

It's been reported that United have 100 million pounds plus to spend on transfers over the next 4 seasons. Now while this cannot match Chelsea's budget, with the combination of shrewd purchases by Fergie, the use of talented youngsters like Miller and Kiran Richardson (a defininte up coming star if his performances at West Brom are anything to go by) and the continued development of our youth programme, United can be at least a match for Chelsea on this front.

united were really unlucky. ive never seen arsenal play so crap. uniteds tactics were spot on, unlike some off their finishing.

ronaldo should have got man of the match, he was awesome and continually took the piss out of lauren, and he exposed lauren as the incompetent defender that he is. it was so funny 2 watch how frustrated lauren was getting throughout the game.
