cigarettes

I never said any of that stuff. Trust me, I want to quit, and I will eventually. My point was that just because you smoke doesn't mean you're gonna die before 35, like 2PacThug4Life said. And what is it about smoking? its addictive! thats what it is

I only smoke around 1 or 2 cigs a day, I cut down a lot. I'm not sure whether I would completely give up though, I really enjoy having a cigarette before I go to bed. Like literally, I smoke it, turn the light off and go to sleep.

My dad (who is a doctor) told me that smoking 2 cigarettes a day really won't do you any harm.

I only ever really smoke when I go out. I enjoy smoking because it calms me down but I don't like smelling bad, but when you're in bars you're gonna smell like cigarette smoke anyway, so I figure I might as well smoke when I'm there. Even though I have tried (lol) I never really developed the habit of smoking so I guess that's a good thing.

Also, my boyfriend doesn't like it when I smoke so that's another reason for me not to do it.

Hahahaha, dead before 35? are you seriously kidding me? There's been people who smoke all their lives and die of natural causes, not cancer, and they lived way past 35. Hell my dad started smoking when he was 12. He's 68 now, still smokes and rides his bike to work every day. He is in very good health. And second hand smoke is supposedly worse for you. so you're probably gonna die sooner than us smokers lol. Plus you could walk outside tomorrow and get killed, what makes you so sure you gonna live to be old?

It's proven that smoking has negative effects on your health. It's also obvious when I compare the health and fitness of my non-smoking friends to my friends who smoke. It is also obvious when I see people who have given up and the improvement in their health and fitness.

It isn't just about living longer, it's about having a better quality of life. There are always exceptions to the rule, and your dad is lucky. Most people aren't so lucky especially those who died of lung cancer. A very painful way to die, with a very painful treatment. And there is no evidence that second hand smoke causes any damage to you. It's a hard 1 to judge.

At the end of the day I couldn't care what any of you do. You can shoot smack in your veins for all I care. I choose not to smoke and to laugh at your coughs and wheezes.

Of course smoking has negative effects on your health. I don't think anyone is trying to deny that. And if you quit your health will steadily improve. I only brought up my Dad to prove a point. I know he is an exception, hes been extremely lucky. There is no evidence second hand smoke causes damage to you? Try telling that to the non smokers who lived and worked with people who smoked and ended up with lung cancer. There is plenty of evidence. If breathing in pollution into your lungs is bad for your health, than how can breathing in someone else's smoke not affect your health as well?

I know, when you think about it, you're essentially paying someone to kill you slowly, and that alone is reason to quit. I (hopefully) plan on quitting by the end of this year. I just felt I had to say something in response to 2PacThug4Life's comment that if you smoke you'll die before 35, which is obviously untrue.

It was an exageration I'm sure but when 1 in 2 males will develop cancer in their lifetime and 1 in 3 women, I wouldnt be adding smoking related cancer into that statistic.
My Nan smoked most of her life, you know that generation started particularly early, and got Lung cancer in an unoperable part of her lung. Before we knew she had cancer she looked maybe 10 years younger than she really was a wonderful woman. Once she started chemo I swear within weeks she looked like a frail old woman. I went to see her one day and I couldnt really recognise the woman I had grown up with, her eyes were sunken her skin was sagging n she was just miserable and lonely since her husband had died of pancriatic cancer. Just watching her die like that tells me NO smoker should say, we all gotta go some time. Thats exactly what she used to say. But you know what not many non-suicidal people would jump infront of a train and thats basically what your doing every time you puff your slowly moving yourself infront of an oncoming train that aint gonna stop.

I agree. And I'm not saying that second hand smoke doesn't damage you. Just that doctors haven't found evidence of it.

My nan died of lung cancer, she worked with Asbestos, which caused it.
