Canadian Hip Hop

Saukratese for real.. Choclairs old shit is dope as hell too. But i think he fell off.. Also check ot some K-os/Rascalz shit

But for real, Canadian hiphop just doesnt have no backing and promotion... toronto itself has loads of dope artists, but nobody's scouting for artists in Canada really. The 2 most popular from toronto are Kardinal Official, and Choclair, but in reality they're just a bunch of jokes to the toronto hip hop heads. There isnt much focus here, but this city needs time. Dont sleepon the city's talent, Eventually it'll be on the map.

canada has NO hiphop?.. coming from a dude from peterborough i'm not too surprised to hear that... but all jokes aside. I cant speak for the rest of Canada, but I know for a fact Toronto is filled with talent, its just not chanelled, just raw kids that can spit, but nowhere to shine or put it down. Trust me, Toronto is living hiphop, i seen kids that can barely speak english freestyling (they're not always the greatest, but they are trying to get into the culture). I mean we can sit here and say England doesnt have a hiphop scene either, just cuz we're not used to hearing it... But I'm sure local cats in England tear shit up, infact I've heard some dudes fom England tear shit up myself. Nobody but the American artists are being marketed yet.... It'll all come in time.

im from Toronto man, i go to Peterborough for school. Wake up! Torontos got a very shitty rap scene. Choclairs garbage and the only rap scene Toronto has is that bullshit hippy hip hop. Nobody plays any good rap downtown. Torontos too fucked up the ass with reggea, and thats the truth. Beleive me man. Torontos got nothin'. Straight up, sometimes you run into a cool rap cat at a jam or something, but thats about it.

Nah Choclair has some classic tracks, I remember seeing him in Toronto, he tore the house down.

thats cause nobody has taste there. Torontos buried in reggea, u know that.

This was a good 5 years ago man, things have probly changed, but I throwing my arms up shouting "i got a rocket in my pocket" with about 1500 other people, it was the shit.

As for UK, we do have hiphop to an extent, but there are only a few good acts, such as Outlandish. Twista, Nate Dogg, Ghostface and a few others have put some imput into some UK Hip Hop.

We have our own scene called Grime with came up through garage music, there are other scenes, but they all come from garage. You would probly think its shite, and most of it is, but some of its tight, Like Kano. We are into alot of Bashment/Dancehall aswell.

a) thats what I'm saying the scene is flop as in, the kids that spit dont get to shine much, cuz nobody is promoting oronto hiphop... but trust me, kids can Spit in t-dot straight from sauga to scartown theres cats that can spit.

b) yes i know choclair is shit ... now. But thats what im saying choclair and kardinal get attention for canadian hiphop, where i know ppl just in my circle that would tear those cats to shreds.

c) I've met ALOT of heads downtown that are into real hip hop.. I'll admit raggae is big around toronto, but thats cuz o the ethnic breakdown of the city.

.. but like i'm saying torono has talent, and toronto also has a deep hip hop culture. Its just that there's no exposure for most artists.

Kardinal's stupid lol. Lord knows how the fuck he got where he is today. But ya, i never ran into anything serious. The scene theres just too weak, or ppl listen to the wrong kind of rap. They think rap's huge in Toronto, but its really not. Theyre more worried about looking/being the biggest stupid gang-banger and try to freestyle or pretend theyre big on rap cause its cool. Thats the feeling i get. There might be talent, sure, but definately nothin' to get excited about. And you dont have any back-packers in Toronto either, thats for sure. Toronto's a shitty place to live if you're looking to get signed lol. Go to NY. And even when you get there, u better not tell anyone youre from Canada cause they'll just laugh at u...be honest, admit it, u know that.

i really dont think all of thats true. What do u mean, people listen to the wrong rap in toronto? Define whats the right rap. I know people that listen to mainstream, i know ppl that just stick with old school, i know ppl that stick straight underground. i know people that are like a wu tang cult. Iknow ppl that dont even listen to anybody, cuz they're to focused on their own work, I've met everytype of hip hop fan in toronto.

and yes toronto like every city has dumb kids that are trying to be gangsters and dumb gangsters that cant rhyme that are trying to be rappers. but that shit exist in every city.

and ur right toronto is a shitty place to get signed.. its damn near impossible. But going to NY and getting laughed at cuz ur from Canada? that'll happen in the rest of the United States too, cuz alotta ppl are just ignorant and arrogant like that

Oh please, Newyork, is OVERHYPED... yes NYC has talent, and yes theres some raw kids out there. But but newyork aint got nothin speacial that other cities dont have. Other than the fact the industry has been very sucessful in marketing and scouting for talent in that city.

Backpackers.. the hell?... toronto's got quite a bit of backpackers. U know u cant actually tell a backpacker by the way he dresses...I've met alotta cats that would be considered a backpacker. Maybe u should elaborate on what u consider a backpacker and what makes u think they dont exist in toronto.

Toronto, is just like every other city in the world. Its got a hip hop cultue, its got talent, and just isnt being marketed like most cities in the world.

yeah i pick choclair too..i dont really know which hip-hop artists are canadian...

oh wait...theres this artist that was on much musics VJ Search..i forget his name tho..

Torontos got more or those dumb gangsters than good talent, and good talent is hard to find. I guess its the age we live in. But Toronto just doesnt have that scene. You go to Brooklyn today and you get BIG and Pac on the radio, what does Toronto have? When was the last time you heard some Pac, BIG, Nas, Snoop, Mobb Deep on the radio? Fuck, even G-Unit. Its just not there. Even radio stations know that Torontos got a gay rap scene.

i wont argue with u on that point.. i think ur absolutely right. But some of that has to do with population, and again people not marketing hiphop in toronto, as well. Radio stations suck in toronto, and i havent heard too many radio stations outside tdot, but the vibe i get is pretty much all radio stations are gay, other than a few independant prjects.

But for real, a radio station playing the stuff u mentioned, doesnt make it real hip hop or a good rap scene, its just a radio station catering to rap traditionalist. I still havent heard of radio stations anywhere, catering to all hip hop heads. Get some time in for new shit like g-unit lil jon etc, get some time in for some throw backs like big pac pun etc. get some real old school flavor like rakim, slick rick, ll cool j etc. Get some time in for sum underground shit, some time for local acts, some time in for turntablism, some time for freestyles. All that type of shit. So when ur looking at the radio, if im not mistaken, no1 really has a dope scene.

exactly. And to find a scene with what you mentioned above in Toronto is next to impossible. People just dont listen to that kind of rap. Either that, or clubs and shit think that ppl dont listen to that kind of music, which makes Toronto, a gay rap scene.

^^^ I think its next to impossible anywhere.. I also used to be real sceptic of the toronto rap scene, but i realized its not so bad. But whatver differences in opinion, I guess its all about who u run with. I used to be with a bunch of heads that didnt know shitabout hiphop, but spent all their time being gangsta and pretending to know hiphop, but eventually i ran into alotta real hiphop heads, and realized the scene aint dead at all, and infact i like the toronto hiphop scene alot... but thats all just personal opinion i guess

CDN rap is mostly trash with the exception of a few SONGS not artists, SONGS. Kardinal is the biggest assclown, I had the unfortunate opportunity to see him live when he opened for 50cent like 4 years ago and he was just running around the stage like a clown.
