Just another excuse. People were warned ahead of time but didn't realize it would hit them this hard. Being poor doesnt mean you cant walk or travel on a bus/car to higher/safer ground. Seriously think about it if they can't afford a ticket for a bus why can they afford to live in a house/apartment? Pay their utility expenses? Watch TV, listen to the radio? People living in the area were warned days ahead that they will be encountering a hurricane. So here again I'll use my common sense. Hurricane brings strong winds and lots of rain so eventually it will flood and I will be trusting my levees which are pretty outdated to help reside the flood? Did it happen correctly? Talk to anyone living in Florida what they do to prepare themselves for the hurricane season.
Being poor doesnt mean you need to stay in an area that we all know will be FUBAR'ed. And your analysis of the 3rd world country is flawed. They don't have any type of help; while here we do have many opportunities to survive and maintain. I don't think they have a welfare system, food stamps, uneployment checks over there in the 3rd world country do they? So stop with this being poor I can't do nothing routine. Poor or rich people stayed back so what do you want me to do? They suffered the consequences of what a hurricane can do, sad to say.
You need to remember, these people get everything from the government. Transportation, food, clothing, shelter, everything. Who do you think they will depend on to get help? So the local governemnt says come to this shelter, come to this shelter, and what do hey do, what they are asked to do. Have you ever been in a poor neighboorhood, ever lived off of food stamps, ever received government assistance, have you ever experienced "ghetto" life besides what you hear on a cd? Do I really need to break it down for you, the expenses that you dont pay for, how it is possible to live in a house and not pay rent, or not even work for that matter? Be real, stop puting blame on these people. Even if they did get out what were they to do, wander the streets? As for the shelter analogy I have not heard of any shelter until the aftermath of the storm. Also I don't remember people dying in the shelters when the storm hit. I do remember reading people dying in some shelters after the storm hit because the government was not prepared enough to help out. Rather than depending on the government (which people are at the moment) maybe its time to actually do something for yourself and your safety? Our family did.
