Does anyone know of any good tools which will allow me to alter the bit rate of mp3 files?

On Windows XP i used Musicmatch Jukebox which was very good. It did individual songs very very quickly - the only problem was that you had to do them one-by-one. but it wasnt too bad.

The best thing about Musicmatch was that it automatically replaced the old file with the newly bitrated one in the same directory (without losing any info from the IDv3 tags).

Unfortunately, Musicmatch Jukebox ended support for the program before vista was out and therefore i cannot use this on Vista.

Can anyone suggest any alternatives with the above benefits, something user-friendly, quick to use and possibly can process batch files?

Thank You.

Why do you need to change the bit rate???

You can't actually increase the bit rate of a file that is all ready ripped from the source, you can but it isnt a true bit rate. For example, if it was ripped at 128, you can change it to 320, but in reality its still 128. And decreasing the the bitrate will reduce the quality of the song.

i like to reduce quality on some songs that i dont listen to much. i.e. some mixtapes etc and then that way they dont consume much memory for something i dont use or listen to a lot.

overall, it does make a difference. saves a few GB on HDD and also makes all the difference on the ipod.

You need a batch processor. Adobe Audition might have one.
