For me the 2 best are:

Gianluigi Buffon: he is like a machine. he rarely makes a mistake. Played a big roll in Italy's World Cup triumph

Iker Casillas: looks a bit shaky this season but there is no denying his brilliance.

The best of the rest for me would be:

Peter Cech: Back to his best after a difficult 2007/2008 season.

Shay Given: fantastic keeper. im not saying that just because he is Irish either. I can recall him making one bad mistake in his top flight career. Some of his performances for Ireland back through the years have been outstanding most notably in the 0-0 draw against France when he made some unbelievable saves.

Julio Cesar: Very solid Brazilian keeper for Inter Milan. The fact that Francesco Toldo has been sitting on the Inter bench for the past few years says it all.

Beppe Reina: Great shot stopper and has arguably the best distribution of any keeper in the world but he still looks shaky under crosses.

You must be out of your mind if you dont include a german keeper into the list :P

Seriously, i cant even say. I would say Buffon although i havent seen him play in ages.

^^who should i put in? Rensing looks a good keeper but hasnt been number 1 for Bayern too long. I would have Kahn up there with Casillas and Buffon when he was a this best. Who is Germany's first choice keeper now?

Nah, Rensing is not even close to Buffon.

Adler is the best german keeper now. And he will be the best in the world a few years from now. My prediction.

Buffon is a monster. I watch him most weekend for Juventus. The man makes saves out of this world. I can't enough count the number of times he's saved Juventus. Also, he has loyalty to his club. When they went down to Serie B, he stuck by his guns. It's admirable, especially nowadays when players aren't as loyal.

Cassilas also a great keeper, has had his share of mistakes, but makes up for it in great saves. Sevilla / Real Madrid this season comes to mind, even if they lost.

Shay Givens is great, underrated.

Van Der Saar also deserves a nod. He has been solid for many many years.

As for Reina, I don't like him. lol. He's solid, but he pisses me off for some reason.

Casillas has been the best keeper along with Buffon for quite some time, during the galactico era he was the most consistant performer along with Ronaldo and Zidane.

Hes back to his best now, his last 3-4 games hes been fantastic, he made a great save against Villarreal last week too.

Casillas >

Fuck Cech too, one of the most overrated keepers ever, why do people not realise he makes alot of mistakes? People just dont pay attention as Cheslea used to be in a winning position at the time (Tevez/Babel) come to mind right away.

I'm a big fan of Kameni also but hes not in the top 5.

1. Iker Casillas (Real Madrid/España) 249 points.
2. Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus/Italia) 170.
3. Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United/Holanda) 143.
4. Petr Cech (Chelsea/República Checa) 108.
5. Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscú/Rusia) 23.
6. José Francisco Cevallos (LDU de Quito/Ecuador) 21.
7. Julio César (Inter de Milán/Brasil) 18.
8. José Manuel Reina (Liverpool/España) 15.
9. Jens Lehmann (Stuttgart/Alemania) 13.
10. Justo Wilmar (Valladolid Deportivo/Paraguay) 12
Top ten as published by the IFFHS.

^^the fact that Shay Given never makes any of those kind of lists means thay arent worth a shit. Edwin Van Der Sar at 3? lmao. dont get me wrong Van Der Sar was one of the best in the world but nowadays he isnt 3rd best.

and an even bigger lmao for Jens Lehmann at number 9.

I want your own opinion on this,

They rank it on a points system, I think it's along the lines of games won, trophies won, clean sheets etc. I'm not saying it's fair but using this method od judgement it's easy to see why Given isn't in the top ten.

yea thats what i meant when i said he had a difficult 2007/2008 season but he looks to be back to himself this season and dont forget how good he was in those Chelsea title winning sides. I think those head injuries had an effect on him as well.

Disagree on Sar. Now, obviously I'm biased here. I can retain my objectivity quite well even in cases where it affects me personally (twente, netherlands) but Sar is different. Yes, he IS old. And he has issues with fitness. But when he is 100% he's still the absolute top.

And Utd. are being smart with him right now. Saving him for bigger games while giving the 2nd goalie chances in "lesser" (no game is less, it's just others are more important) games.

Good set-up.
