are americans ignorant to world wide hip hop

i useto live in the midle east and i moved to america 4 years ago and the first thing i noticed was the difrence in music. i noticed that there was not one music video on mtv that was not american. at that time craig david's first album was released world wide for about 8 months or so but in america nobody even heard of him i was shocked everibody all around the world new him except for americans. i also loved NANA he was really populer where i was i didnt even know where he was from untill i came here and noticed that nobady had any idea who he whas then i looked it up and found out that he is german.
so i believe that it is very hard for any non american artist to be playd here wether hes a raper or a singer ether way the american media tries for some reason to keep anything non american of the tv and out of the radio and thats why most americans no nothing about the world and what goes on it.
i hope i didnt afend anybody but that is just my opinin from my experiance living here in america.

seriously zerocool, french rap is ok... French rap from france of course... a lot of groups are pretty gay because they try to immitate what the rappers in the states say. Altho, groups like IAM or Funky Family and solo rappers as Busta Flex know what they talk about and it's really entertaining. French language consists more words that can be used to do word plays, so that makes french rap entertaining :thumb:

Damn!! What an exemple of ignorance! Probably the dude dont even know more rap... I'm from portugal n we have some good rappers, of course we dont have the publicity dat anything, even the crap, from the states has, but there r here good rappers with good messages not like the mainstream american hip hop, dat's pure garbage...

I can't remember who it was but it was someone respected like KRS or the Jungle Brothers - or somebody like that - that said that countries outwith America have a better understanding of Hip Hop history & the culture. They said - in no way dissing Americans - that Americans are just kind of lazy with it & take it for granted, while others appreciate the culture to the full.

As for people just listening to American acts, I think that in Britain, the accents put a lot of people off whereas French rap & such suffers because of the language barrier.

On a domestic level, the accent may just not sound as complimentary to the music as an American accent. What people are used to is also an issue, if you only ever really heard an American accent on a track, it seems alien when a London accent is heard. That said, I think areas only need one artist to blow up - & I mean, on a worldwide scale - & the rest can follow.

As for abroad, I think French, Germans etc. that are actually into Hip Hop don't mind the accent that much. The Americans, however, are arrogant.

The language barrier is quite self-explanatory, although even with the little French I understand, I have, now & again, been able to appreciate the beat used by & flow of a French rapper.

no doubt!! i'll be honest with yo'all, i don't know hip hop worldwide, but i know that the audience is not not as large as in the US. like some1 said, the market there is huge and the industry make *a lot of* money with that. rappers don't really have to be original. nowadays, everybody looks the same. they follow the same reciept: usher, 50, snoop,... everybody wants to listen to r&b songs that dont really say nothing. im not saying i dont like r&b. im saying that the real problems are not being exposed.

here in Brasil, things are totally different. most of rappers don't get enough $$ with hip hop. just very few groups. because of that, the production is not very good. they are very united and fight for the hip hop culture, though. their intention is to improve people's life in favelas (ghettos in the US look like paradise when compared to them!!).

what i can see in the US, rappers are just worried to get paid, to get out of the hood. i respect that. but i dont see no one worried about the condition of the people in the ghetto. the last mainstream artist i can remember is 2pac.

Brazilian Hip Hop is 100% into the Hip Hop original foundation, like the 4 elements, social and cultural evolution. The groups here, they dont accept when they´re invited to appear on a mainstream TV channel, they make a lot of concerts for free, in the poor comunity.
If you compare Brazilian rap, i mean lyrics, with american, we eat 90% of american platinum rappers alive, Its rare to listen to rappers bragging about how much money they have and shit like that.

Its 100% real, raw and they represent the favelas forever .
If you talk about represent the real Hip Hop, i stay with France, Germany, Brasil, cuba.
 
personally the accent ruins anything that they have going to for them otherwise. to be perfectly honest its unbearable and near impossible to hear any emotion or seriousness. Now although it might actually be there, the accents make it inaudible. so i may love a british rapper's actual lyrics on paper but i'd hate him spitting them.

i think latins are the only ones with a real chance at making decent hip hop music if they get away from all this da me la gasolina bullshit and make real music but outside of that, what starts outside of the US is probably going to stay outside the US.
 
Most of you "foreigners" are ignorant to think that 50, Snoop, Usher, or the "mainstream" shit is all we have. Let me clue you in, people here who really love Hip-Hop dont even like that. Still at the same time you can't hate and say this Brazilian rapper will eat 90% of these rappers alive because guess what, that is not what they are out to do. They are out to sell music that sounds good gets people dancing and sell records. There is a time and place for every type of music, from 50 to whoever you think is hard and underground. So to think that any type of music is better is ignorant. Be it from the states, the UK, other parts of Europe whatever. Music is music for a reason, it reaches people who can relate to it. Ignorance is when you try to call someone else ignorant for thinking they don't accept someones music. Sorry if I cant relate to a French rapper talking about his countries issues. We like what music we like, if I dont feel something I simply dont feel it, that doesn't mean I am ignorant.

On a side note, if "foreigners" try to claim that they love Hip-Hop more or their artists respect it more or whatever that first post said. Why do you still try to find acceptance from the US. Why do you care what "Americans" think if you feel your "Hip-Hop" is better.

i agree with you when you say that snoop and others are not all you have. immortal technique is - as far as i know - a respected underground rapper. imo, ignorance is when you think American hiphop is the best out there without never have listened to whats happening overseas. a good example is the previous post. i dont think its that hard for you to feel "foreigners" rappers. most of the time, they are complaning and exposing the same issues as an American rapper do, since poverty, prejudice, and drugs dont differ that much from one country to another one. considering serious rappers, not "da me la gasolina bullshit".

btw, i dont expect to "try to find acceptance from the US". as a matter of fact, it doesnt matter if Americans dont like brazilian, french,... hiphop. what it matters, is you staying tune to new trends, what the other country is doing in order to help and improve the culture, exchanging info, and so on.

no man, i did mean mainstream. he was mainstream. the difference is that he could reach both mtv viewers and the streets.
 
Havent read all this thread...2 much. But Im gunna say this on the subject.

Im not ignorant to to worldwide hiphop...Ive checked out a bunch of different shit. I aint sayin I listened to a lot, but Ive checked a few different varieties u know what I mean? But i'unno...the shit they do in english i dont usually tend to like cuz its either been the same gimmicky bullshit, or their accents r 2 harsh. I mean, I understand everybody has their accents including in the different parts of the States, but they jus dont sound appealing to me. Im guessing its prolly cuz Ive been here and Mexico my whole life, so thats what Im used 2 and thats what sounds good to me. And the other reason I didnt like other types of music was cuz they were in their native tongue and the only other language I speak is a lil bit of Spanish, so I cant understand shit lol. Yah thats jus my 2 pesos.

The rest of the world just ain't up to the standards of U.S hip-hop ...just yet. And if there is someone who's dope out there they don't get enough exposure. I love hip-hop and if a track sounds good and the lyrikz are dope, regardless of where the emcee(s) are from then I'll cop it and listen to it.
