Can you name some popular viruses and trojans for macs?

Isn't computer and internet safety one of the MAIN reasons people purchase Macs?

I'm not a computer security expert so I can't. But its logical that there is nothing that is immune to viruses and trojans. I've had a PC since 1993 and I've only had ONE virus when I first got the internet, I have never had another.

Surf smart and you won't get a virus, its that easy.

Why would they make viruses for such a small percentage?

Many of them make viruses for the glory which they can't attain unless its a global wide virus that affects as many people as possible. Thus, they make viruses for the PC.


This does not make the MAC more secure in fact i believe it would make it less safe because they don't have to deal with the same problems, yet. But should it become more popular (doubtful) or should someone decide to make a virus for it then they would have a lot more security holes than their computer counterparts.

Bottom line is nobody gives a shit about MAC because there will never be a big market for it. Not everyone is stupid enough to fall for their stupid marketing schemes.

Foolish argument. Apple has almost a cult following, something PC companies will never have. Market share isn't the be-all, end-all when it comes to revenues.

I don't see how internet for mac is greater than others. If you're smart and don't download the attachment sent from 45322sidhottie@hotmail.com you won't have a problem. You can buy a laptop and format the hard drive (which you should do anyways, you don't want the shit they install on it) and reinstall windows xp if you know someone with the disk or download it. Hackers will find easier ways to hack into macs, they're too popular not to.

The thing I like about my macbook is the battery life. It can last about 5-6 hours unplugged while my friends pc laptops last 3-4 hours. Get a macbook pro if you don't plan on playing games on it. Also download all the programs that you need, you don't need to pay thousands of dollars for a single program.

My main concern wasn't internet, I figure any laptop will work very similar in that area. But from what I've read/heard/seen Mac's are better in the visual side of things, considering I'm doing a art's degree it might come in handy.

Salty really likes me even though he never comes on AIM anymore. I build all my pc's myself, salty. I pick out all the parts myself and build it. You're just a bias Apple fanboy. I'm not saying they suck as a computer but they are over priced ALOT. Add a extra two gigs of RAM? Oh that will be $199. Thanks sucker. Final cut pro? That will be $1299. LMFAO I got four gb of ram in my PC and I only paid $99 for it. You pick out any MAC you want to Salty and I will part out a PC that has more ram, better processor, bigger hard drive, better video card (not that integrated bullshit on some off the macbooks), better sound card for a ton cheaper than any mac you can price out.

Like I said before, base models that Apple offers aren't that badly overpriced. And I hate to do the car analogy because it's redundant, but but but, you can say your Hyundai has more horsepower and more leg room than your neighbors BMW but that doesn't turn your Hyundai into a Beemer. You got a nice working car for $60,000 less but it's still not a Beemer. And here's the fanboi part - get ready - the engineers at Apple takes the same parts you buy, dump a bunch of R&D money into it, develops it over the course of a year, give or take, and builds a machine that is designed to run the operating system they market. That's the difference I'm talking about. Your PC can run Crysis, great, but it's not a Mac. It's not made by Apple.


On a interesting side note, I built myself a Hackintosh because my laptop died and I wanted some desktop power without spending over 2G on a Mac Pro. I bought most of my stuff at Newegg.com ..... and I don't know.... maybe they overprice ha... but it was impossible to build a good $500 computer. I couldn't allow myself to install outdated components so I ended up at little over $800 with monitor included - and I'm at around the last gen iMac level.
