Has it been posted? October 6th for the G2 in the US.

Current T-Mobile customers can pre-order through October 4th and have the device delivered on Oct 6th. I was going to pre-order but instead I think i'm going to wait until the phone is somewhere in a store so that I can see it and compare it to the Samsung Galaxy.

Having seen it.... I know you will be impressed! It's just so freakin' smooth. And the version I tested was the international version with Sense! So with stock Android it will be even smoother. Not to mention US edition has 4GB internal memory compared to international 1.5......I really don't get HTC sometimes. They should just release the same damn phone everywhere. I guess T-Mobile US insisted on stock Android and pushed them to increase the memory, whereas international carriers didn't give a fuck.

I'm not even sure if T-Mobile UK are even getting it and I don't particularly want to switch carriers..... sad days.

If I'm not wrong, it was designed by the Mozilla community. They asked the users to make a prototype of some kind and this is what they came up with. Pretty cool.

I see it's running Android. Mozilla won't make a mobile OS of their own?

LOL Of course.. the discount! Does your wife have T-Mobile? If she does you can have her add an extra line to her mobile plan. It'll be like an extra $10 per month, but that's the only extra charge. Then you get the phone for the cheaper price and just switch out the SIM cards

She does, but she's switching to Verizon so that's not an option. Her company moved to new premises and T-Mobile has bad service there....in fact every carrier does except Verizon. I think she'll end up getting the new rumored Droid Venus superphone because she was talking about buying out her contract in December and that's when that phone comes out.

This was a rumor, and has been shot down already. Simply not true at all.

Also, for the record, the Scorpion processor in the G2 is better than the 1GhZ Snapdragons due to the architecture and the GPU. We already discussed this.

What you guys have to remember is that the Android Developer Phones will ALWAYS be phones running stock Android.

Google actually has very little to do with Android phones that have garbage custom UI's like TouchWiz. They have almost no involvement with them.

This is the difference that many people seem unable to grasp when it comes to Android and criticizing it. Understand the difference between "Google Experience" devices like the G1, N1, Droid1, G2, and all other Android devices that Google don't have a direct involvement with.

Whether other manufacturers are selling well with their devices is beside the point. They are still second-tier Android phones and are liable to slow updates, carrier bloatware, and removed features.

With top-tier devices, Google gets the final say. No carrier bloatware, no skins, no removed features, quick updates.

There are no specific requirements for Gingerbread. It's possible there will be for Honeycomb.

Yes, the Droid should run a full Gingerbread ROM except for any new features that require specific hardware, like tethering on FroYo.

I fully expect that first-gen hardware like the G1 and Eris will also get Gingerbread ports. If there's still a strong dev community, anything is possible. FroYo runs decently on the G1 so Gingerbread will most likely run OK. Hopefully I'll be rocking something brand new by then, but I'll still flash a Gingerbread ROM onto the G1 for shits and giggles.

Also Gingerbread is not necessarily 3.0....so we'll just refer to the new update as Gingerbread from now on until we figure out what number it's going to be.

I see. So right now, Ginger and Honey, neither have established "requirements," there's just a rumor that Honeycomb might require it?

Well, damn. Say Honeycomb does require certain specs, how far back do you predict the firmware would support? At least the Droid, or it will it most likely be the wave that started with the Nexus One and DInc, 1.0Ghz, screen size, etc.?

I dunno how mant of you use Reddit, but I just found out they have an Android subreddit. And it looks really cool. Definitely not as good as this thread, but it is quality. I love it.
