There was a first running Nexus One ICS port within hours from release. Not to mention guys who made ICS run on their Nexus S phones in September before the official announcement. You can see numerous videos on youtube which are in fact real.

So if the N1 isn't getting it, that definitely knocks back the OG Droid.

Will we see something similar to what happened to the G1 with the Droid and ICS? Take some features out and still have 4.0? I realize I can use a launcher to get the ICS look now, but I am a bit of a stickler and at least want 4.0, even though I have no clue how it will change my phone, outside of aesthetics.

When are you going to upgrade your phone? Well, hard to say with Motorola Droid because it's a relatively slow phone, and on paper the hardware looks even worse. On another hand I would say that it will probably get some unofficial rom.

speaking of the G1, I saw this guy with one a few days ago and noticed that his notification bar at the top was black. I wonder if he had had a Gingerbread ROM installed.

I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon. I may be waiting for at least the iPhone 5 to see what it has to offer and then make a new purchase. I was debating whether to get a GSM Android phone to use at school, but it would need to be an AT&T banded phone in order to get data on the carrier here. I want data so I can wirelessly tether to it in class.

There was a N1 on eBay, brand new for about $230 or so. Good thing I didn't get it with the hopes of getting ICS or something.

Might just find a used Nexus S and see how that goes. But I don't want a spruced up GS1. http://9to5google.com/2011/10/26/un...o5Google+(9to5+Google+-+Beyond+Good+and+Evil)

There is that, though.

If he's running 2.2 via CM then hes most likely got what i've got from the Market, "StatusBar+". Basically it runs another status bar ontop of the real one, allowing you to change the color. Its pretty basic, and only certain notification icons appear, hopefully they'll keep working on it to perfect it.

Either that, or hes got a real good launcher that I havent got hold of. Some PandaHome themes hid the bar completely, so I guess a launcher could recolor it also.

there is a way to get gingerbread on the G1, but I wonder what the performance would be like. the cyanogen wiki site doesn't list the gingerbread version up, so im guessing it might be a ROM based on CM 7.

I see. It clearly works for you and you find it useful, but I don't think it's quite the same for everyone else. Everyone I know has a job or sits right next to me in class. Family, friends, etc. Judging by posts on Facebook, it seems that the only people that use FourSquare regularly and unemployed kids I knew from high school that want everyone to know that "gettin' fresh kicks for dees bitches im kickin wit 2nite." So a bunch of imbeciles. Which is why, to me, it doesn't matter who came out with location-based services first, I see them being solely abused by retards. Clearly, others have a different experience with them.

Well, I work in an industry dominated by what's called "new media". Radio, TV, entertainment, music, journalists, artists, actors, record label people, PR people, A&Rs, event promoters, investors, graphic designers. It'd be very hard for anyone to survive in any of these roles (and much more) without heavy social media usage, including location.

Having said that, I have friends on 4SQ who are software developers, chefs, teachers, optometrists and bodybuilders. So, you know. Depends on your social circles. I don't associate with anyone from high school except one person, I have no reason to. So they aren't even on my Facebook, let alone my 4SQ. Plus, most people don't really publish their checkins to FB, so if that's all your judging it on I'd say that's a pretty inaccurate judgment.

Like any social networks, they reflect the people you know. I happen to know lots of cool people. If the only people you know that use 4SQ are "unemployed kids from high school" than, with no diss/judgement, that says more about the people you know than anything else.

I just got back from 3 days in Amsterdam. Anything newsworthy that I missed? The Droid 4 leaked out just now:

Looks like a RAZR with a keyboard. Pretty cool.

It has a smaller LCD display which looks pretty bad, it's thicker and heavier. Not impressive at all imho. The Razr looks quite interesting though. I'm not a fan of Motorola for their low quality but Razr apparently uses pretty expensive materials (not sure about internals though).

I don't really follow people in entertainment on Facebook that often. Tracking where someone is at all times really doesn't scream "social" to me. Foursquare is one thing, Latitude is another.

Yes, I was originally talking about Latitude then you replied to me talking about Foursquare, so I talked about that.

Latitude is my family and close friends. Foursquare is a bit more relaxed.

How about that Google Plus, huh? Can't wait til it takes over Facebook.....

I use G+ far more than FB these days. More engaging, more intellectual conversations, more interesting people.

I actually post more on peoples streams in my area than on my own 'wall' in G+ - love the convos people get into... FB is just my footy and funnys spot.

As for latitude, I don't use it, but that is only because none of my close friends own an Android phone. Everyone has either an Iphone, BB or a 'dumbphone' ... One of my friends is switching from BB to Android soon though.
