So, what's the consensus on the Kindle Fire?

For me, a big "meh". The good thing is the other kindles are cheaper now. I was thinking about getting one because it might induce me to read more since reading ebooks on my computer and phone isn't very convenient.

I like it, I pre ordered one but cancelled it when I realized it doesnt have an external card reader :( That was the deal killer for me. I did like the Prime integration part though

Because they make their $$ selling content rather than hardware like Apple they can price it sooo cheap.. $199 is practically nothing...

Kindle Fire is dope. Great spec, great software, killer price.

But it's basically just my NookColor with a faster processor, so don't need it. I have all the Amazon apps on the NC, I use Kindle for Android as my e-reader... and cos I'm running Gingerbread I have all the other options, plus Android Market etc.

I know a few people that are interested though, and it'll almost certainly sell a shitload. I know a few people that are looking into getting one.

The winner for me would be if they set up the streaming and book rentals free to prime customers. I am a prime member already, but I can see them limiting it to the US.

Samsung announces new Exynos processor to power high-end smartphones

The home-made Exynos 4210 processor is the core of Samsung’s Galaxy S II line, and is currently the fastest processor in any smartphone on the market. Today, the company has announced the impending successor to that chip, the Exynos 4212, an ARM Cortex A9 SoC made from a 32nm manufacturing process. The dual-core chip will run at 1.5Ghz, as opposed to the current 1.2Ghz, and provide a 30% power reduction despite being clocked 300Mhz faster in both cores. This is due to the smaller chip size, better power management and thermal dissipation improvements.
The System-on-Chip (SoC) will also incorporate a faster GPU with claims of up to 50% improvement in overall graphics abilities from the previous generation. In addition, “the Exynos 4212 incorporates a rich portfolio of advanced codec accelerators that support digital still images, video recording and play-back at 1080p full-HD resolution, an image signal processor and an on-chip HDMI 1.4 interface.” In a word, it will be able to stream your 1080p video to your television over the common MHL (USB-to-HDMI) cable without breaking a sweat.
Samsung is already shopping around customers for the chip, but we’re holding out hope it will plant it in its own upcoming Nexus Prime or Galaxy Prime device, just in time for the holidays.

What do you like about it? To me, it's just an overexpensive e-reader. I think the great marketing scheme here is that people think it's a very cheap tablet but it feels like it's missing something that would make it be a true tablet.

The same could be said about the NookColor, but I don't find myself missing a camera or a video recorder, or a microphone, as there's never a time when I have my tablet but NOT my phone.... which is higher spec anyway. The tablet is useful for being a solid e-reader, and for times when I want to watch YouTube vids etc on a slightly bigger screen.

Yeah but tablets suck for reading books. Tablets have similar screens like my Nexus S, right? It hurts my eyes when reading for a prolonged time and in the sunlight, even the highest display brightness wasn't enough to enjoy the experience. That's why e-ink is the way to go in that regard I think.

Pretty much what Casey said. I liked the integration with Prime and that you can use it as a 'lite' tablet.

I want a tablet for movies and books primarily but Id like to put about 15gb of movies and music or at least be able to use an SD card for it, which this was lacking

I've never had an issue reading on my tablet. I've never used it outside though. You know you can invert the color settings, right? So it's gray text on a black background. I read at night that way, with the brightness on the lowest setting and works great.

Yeah, reading at home is fine but I'm talking about a scenario where I'm on the beach, and alternating between reading and looking at tits.

Who the fuck reads at the beach? the sea is right there waiting to be splish-splashed in :D

Pretty sure your bikini area is known as the "Balkan Crisis" on the West Coast.

LOL fuck reading on a beach. I don't even stay on beach long enough to do that. I'm straight in the water.

I hate the sea... Except if I am snorkelling or surfing or something. I chill out, read and have a sly tug over the topless beauties....

Got an email about the new kindle today. I like the look, but miss too many of the old generation features to buy 1.
