Samsung, Sony, and LG to deliver Nexus phones this year?

Back in May the Wall St. Journal reported there would be multiple Nexus devices this year, but the rumors have been awfully quiet since then. Today we received a tip that Japanese carrier DoCoMo’s fall lineup has leaked and it includes three possible Nexus devices.
Rumored devices on the list include the Samsung Galaxy Nexus II, Sony Xperia Nexus, and LG Optimus Nexus. We were originally expecting there could be up to five Nexus devices and we already saw the Nexus 7 and Nexus Q, so it’s possible we could still get three more smartphones.
At this point I wouldn’t put a lot of stock in this rumor, but things have been so quiet that we were starting to wonder if there would be another Nexus phone this year.
Who do you hope makes the next Nexus?

I can see there being two Nexus phones, but three is a stretch. I would think it's more likely the fifth device would be a 10" Nexus tablet.

Perhaps DoCoMo got some info that either Samsung, Sony or LG will be the winner of the Nexus program this year.

That's a possibility. I think it would be out of Samsung and Sony: a) because of Samsung's excellence in recent years and b) because of Sony's loyalty and commitment.

We should also not ignore the fact that Samsung are trying to push their Bada OS at the same time and though their backing of Android is a success, it harms Bada at the same time. There were rumours early in the year that they plan to release dual boot phones and devices that use both Android and Bada. Thoughts? I guess that this is something Masta will like. I personally think that they could learn from each other and innovative competition would bring out the best of them.

Google have to keep innovating to keep Android on top. I think battery life resulting from software still needs to be addressed and so I'd like to see ever-increating improvements in battery life and efficiency. The annoying thing is that various apps now don't allow use if the device is rooted (i.e. Sky Go), so it would be good to see Android implement some of the features that apps requiring SU permissions (root access) have. For instance over and under-clocking. I say this because I see that Samsung have taken some measure into this kind of implementation on the SGS3 (in Developer tools), which doesn't require root. However, the power saving options don't allow you to set values - it's either power save ON or OFF.

Perhaps they won't be nexus devices but those manufactures are getting involved with the AOSP. They will all release variants of the phones with vanilla android as an option. Then they will (hopefully) see everyone pick the vanilla over customisations and we android will thrive....

yah, they are unlimited data, but i've had a 4g photon for a year now, and where i live, there still isnt any 4g tours that work, only in the upper CA, where the richer ppl reside. this sux.

I was gon get a sg3 but changed my mind bc then i would have had to extend this "EDGE" feeling internet connection.

still like my android though. kinda happy with it.

LG’s upcoming flagship “Optimus G” leaks online

LG’s upcoming flagship Android has found itself online. The model number is LG-E973 and is reportedly called the “Optimus G.” AndroidMX has posted pics online and states that the hardware and software are not final, but currently running OS 4.0.4 – so there is a chance that we’ll see Jelly Bean 4.1.1 when it gets officially released. As for specs, similar to what has been rumoured over the past week: 4.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 (not 1280 x 720 as previously expected), 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 13MP camera, and also sport three capacitive buttons ( back, home, and menu). No indication of this being LTE-enabled. There’s a couple more pics below and LG is expected to officially announce the Optimus G next week at the IFA.

That Optimus G should be a Nexus device. Internals are fucking nice.

This might be the first time a Nexus phone comes out and it is leading the pack when it comes to hardware. Usually it comes out using outdated components or something similar.

SAMSUNG TO RELEASE A NEW "NEXUS" MODEL I9260 [SPECIFICATIONS]

Looks like Google & Samsung is going to release a New Nexus Smartphone, Google's Next Nexus will carry a Model number I9260 (Galaxy Nexus was I9250) which suggest that it will be an improved-version of the Galaxy Nexus. We also have the leaked specs sheet (Photo below) but the specs suggest a minor improvement to the previous Nexus.

The Next "Nexus" will be offering a 4.65" SuperAMOLED HD display and a Cortex-A9 Dual-core clocked at 1.5 GHz (was 1.2GHz on the Galaxy Nexus), an 8 MP camera on the back and 1.9 MP one on the front, The device will also carry a 16GB Internal Storage but it will support MicroSD card slot this time. The device will be powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box.

Besides all that was said in the article isn't it a conflict of interest that the jury foreman was a patent holder himself. I'd think that he is going to help protect patents no matter what, right?

I think most people (who probably never patented an idea) don't like the way the patent law stands, but was there not enough evidence to prove that samsung copied apple's design? as far as monetary damages, that's all pretty arbitrary, any introductory law class in the states will tell you that.

So much for several days of planned teasing. Today LG went ahead and officially announced the LG Optimus G, “a high-end smartphone that offers powerful performance, an elegant and sleek design, and an innovative user experience.” This is the device that LG was promoting to have a longer battery life and sport the new thin G2 Touch Hybrid Display.
Leaked pictures surfaced over the weekend and the render that LG has posted online look impressive, sans the 3 capacitive back, search and menu buttons. The Optimus G is an LTE-enabled device so there’s hope us Canadians will get it, but will first be hitting Korea in “September,” then “other markets worldwide.” The Optimus G has 1.5GHz Quad-Core processor with Adreno 320 GPU, Android OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and no word on a Jelly Bean upgrade, 4.7-inch WXGA True HD IPS+ (1280×768 resolution and 320ppi), 2GB RAM, 13MP rear-facing camera with a 1.3MP front-facing camera, 2,100 mAh battery, DLNA, NFC, Wi-Fi. Overall dimensions are 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.45mm and weighs in at 145 grams.
LG stated that the “Optimus G will set the foundation for every future premium smartphone from LG,” so we can expect other devices with similar specs next year. Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications said the “Optimus G isn’t just another high-performance phone with the latest bells and whistles. I could see the decisions being reduced on appeal. The iphone design wasn't new or revolutionary. It was building on already existent technology. As was multi-touch and pinch to zoom. The judge didn't allow that in this case, but will hopefully be shown at the appeal.

Americans don't like superior foreign technology. That's why you all drive American engineered cars, when German and Japanese is far superior.

So a few people at work today were talking about the whole Apple v Samsung trial. This one girl was like "Samsung is shit, they copied Apple and ripped off their designs." and "If you put the iPhone 4S next to the Samsing S2 then it looks almost exactly the same".

Well, the Americans are getting there. I think Chevy, and more so Ford, have started stepping their game up in making more fuel efficient cars.
