All Eyez on Me vs. Life After Death (comparison)

1. He was an icon before his death.....and it was AEOM that launched him to being known worldwide. If you say otherwise, you probably werent listening to hip hop in 96'. Either that, or you're livin' in a fantasy world. I was there to see it happen. His death was just another aspect of it, but he was officially at iconic status on February 13th, 1996.

2. There is NO such thing as a flawless album. Every album has at least one song that someone or another will complain about, so objectively speaking, no such album exists. Classic albums exist, yes, flawless albums do NOT. And even if they DID exist, which they dont, I dont think an album has to be flawless to be a classic.

3. 7 Day Theory is classic, this shouldnt even really be up for debate.....Outlawz were on 4 songs out of the 12, and even the songs they were on are still fire.....they were on "Hail Mary" and that is easily a classic song, please dont even try to argue against that, you will look like a fool if you do. The fact Pac is one of hip hop's all time greats and this widely considered his best work ever almost makes this album classic by default, not to mention the songs themselves, which are some of the best songs he ever penned. Production was sick too, nice n' grimey. "Blasphemy" alone is one of the sickest songs ever, lyrically and conceptually.

4. Name one album influenced from AEOM?? Are u kidding me, you cant be serious? Ill name a fucking shitload of them. LAD itself was influenced from AEOM (why you think Big and everyone and their momma started making double albums? Simple, because Pac did it, and did it on a successful level. Back then it wasnt considered a smart business move to make a double cd but Pac proved otherwise by selling 7 million+). Big's double cd follows all the same formulas that Pac's did pretty much. 50's first album has AEOM written all over it, he totally used Pac's formulas for making that album, his whole demeanor is and persona is bitten from Pac, except Pac was/is a much better songwriter and has more versatility then 50 ever will. Game's debut was influenced from AEOM, Game himself even said so on the album, more then once lol. No Limit, back in 98' was constantly biting themes from Pac's albums (AEOM in particular) with almost all their releases (so thats another 20+ releases right there), C-Murder was one of the biggest Pac biters ever.....Eminem said in an interview once that he used AEOM as one of his influences for making the Eminem Show. Bottomline: AEOM is the album every mainstream MC dreams of making....an album that will appeal to virtually all audiences while still maintaining hip hop respect. Pac was the first rapper to put up MC Hammer type numbers and do it without selling out. I hate to break it to you, but there are far more factors then how many good songs an album has that determines whether its classic or not. Factors such as production, content, impact/influence, replay value, the test of time, etc......AEOM excelled in all or almost all of these categories in SPADES.

5. And as far as hip hop standards go, I have very high standards......just to give you an idea of how high my standards are, I consider the last true hiphop classic to be "Aquemini", which came out 7 years ago. There's been a few near classics since but thats it. To be honest, I think sometimes my standards are a little TOO high and I question myself if im being to close minded. If your standards are higher then mine, well, you need to bring them down a bit, cause then you must be one nit-picky motherfucker. You basically said Pac got no classic albums in your last post, and that definatly hurts your credibility regarding your other opinions on hip hop. I mean, everyone got their own personal tastes but its pretty much universal truth that Pac got classic albums.

you gonna debate with me, you betta step ya game up, real quick.....you're not dealing with one of these run-of-the mill young Pac fans in here that thinks everything he made was classic but just started listening to hip hop 2 years ago, types in all caps, and can only respond with childish insults but cant hold a debate down.....you dealing with someone who knows they shit, and knows it really well.....
Aristotle got a new ass-hole torn there. :thumb:

Well, I had read this argument on a biggie forum before and most of the people there picked LAD and tried to shit on all eyez. The fact that people favor a rapper, they'll favor their work also, so it's not really bias to me. People will like a rapper because of what they do. I happen to like pac because of all eyez on me. Big fans like biggie cause of his music, meaning they may love LAD greatly. If All Eyez on Me didn't exists, I don't know if I would even be feeling 2pac like the way I feel him now. Can you imagine me against the world and then makaveli, without aeom being released in between. It doesn't work for me. Like someone said All Eyez set the tone and standard for many of today's albums. The sound and production were phenomenal for 96 and was very ahead of its time in my opinion. Pac was the only one with that great aeom sound in 96. The album is even considered a classic by many people in the hip hop world.

AEOM= 15 million sales.

1. I wasn't listening to hip-hop in '96. lmao. ok. The fact that I was listening to hip-hop in 96 means I knew there was more than Pac out there. He wasn't a global icon, he was an icon for the west, about as much of an icon Big was for the east. With both deaths it shot them into what some would call immortality because it truly went down in history. But where were you in '96 to see it all go down, I was in the 510 i experienced it first had, your really sayin nothing right there but whatever. But Pac wasnt like that everywhere, I know what Pac did for the west, I went to his shows and bought his cd's the day the dropped way before most of these "young of the mill pac kids" knew about him, as you so put. So the exact day the ablum drops he is iconic.... Listen to what your saying. He was big but don't call him a global icon in 95-96 he simply was not.

2. stictly opinion, cant even argue, i think Illmatic is flawless, as is Paid in Full but that is me. But yeah strictly opinion, even what you call flawless is, or what you even look for in flawlessness, if that makes sense.

3. Ok. The problem with the Outlaws, most of their verses dont fit the song, or even fit off each other. kills the concept, not totally but it puts me off, this to me is not classic. There are couple of average songs to me, like "Life of an outlaw" for example. I liked Pac better on Me Against the World also, it's like he stepped it down on me, wasnt feelin that. I love this album but to me it aint classic. It didn't have what Low End Theory, or Road to Riches or Illmatic had to me. To make it easier its like a 19 out of 20, close but nah.

4. I said Double album but whatever I'll respond accordingly. So making a double album is being influenced by Pac, mad impact on material. So what formula did Big follow besides pressin two dics in one case. I'm not saying he wasn't but I want to see what you have to say, its possible to say some great shit about the comparison, as little as their is. No need to comment on other comparisons its common knowledge. But I never said the number of good songs on an album makes it classic, I was thinking thats how you saw it really, but whatever. So all these artists are impacted by Tupac because he was the first to sell 7 mill and keep appeal? I'm not saying no artist ever wasnt influenced by Pac, he is on that Marvin Gaye level as an artist, nearly everyone is influenced by him, but you arguement is completely weak and flawed, can I quote "Step your game up"

5. Assumption, stop doing it. Me Against the World is Classic. An yes I'm a nit picky mother fucker. It's not like i'm only allowed to listen to just classic shit though. Laugh at you sayin the other shit though, just cus someone has ther own opinion dont mean it discredits them. But to not see the greatness of Me Against the World would be kind of funny.

I'm glad you know your shit but keep you feet grounded. Gettin all excited cus your about to discuss some music on the internet. "You better step your game up, I aint this, blah blah." Who the fuck you tryin to impress? These kids who hopped on your dick cus your arguing for pac, please. Dont try to say I'm wrong cus I dont think Pac is the greatest or All Eyes on Me or 7 Day is classic and that discredits waht I think about Hip-Hop, the fuck. dont try to get all hype and think you said some shit cus you said what any common person says about Tupacs work, who the fuck is you actin like your opinion is all mighty, the fuck out of here with that shit. Tellin me to lower my standards, Im lookin for the pinnacle of Hip-Hop who the fuck is you to tell me to stop. I like certain content and you like certain shit, dont tell me I'm wrong cus your standards are lower than mine. Be glad I respect and love this music so much an offer a different opinion. It should concrete yours even more. Be real with yourself. Now instead of replyin with some sutpid shit take it as it is, tkae it as different light and understand I offerend my opinion and said why I dont agree with yours. Tryin to dis me on the internet, be the hypocrite of your description of these little kids. Quit the your opinion is wrong shit and question mine or something. Seriously ask yourself, how can opinion be wrong.

1. Do you even know what a global icon is?? Its an artist that is has a huge following around the world, not just locally. Before AEOM came out, Pac was a huge rap star but not yet a global icon. But with that album he became one. California Love was all over the world and people in friggin Europe started throwing up their dubbs. This was the album. He went from being a mere star into a musical a behemoth. Sure his death made him even more popular but that dont mean he wasnt an icon before then. If he had died when MATW came out, do you think his death would have been nearly as covered and mourned across the globe?? I dont think it would have, because he wasnt on a worldwide scale yet, but AEOM took him there. From that point on, he was gonna be the biggest rapper in the game for a long time to come if he hadnt of been taken from us too early.

2. Indeed it is opinion. Illmatic is one of my fav albums ever, but
"One Time 4 Your Mind", while a good song, doesnt quite measure up to the other songs IMO......and my fav album ever, 7 Day Theory has the misplaced Toss It Up on there. I dont like to call any album flawless cause thats just too huge of a statement. Illmatic and 7 Day Theory are as close as you can get though.

3. I love "Life of An Outlaw".....both of Pac's verses are on point, and the production is sick, with the acoustic guitars, it has almost a bluesy feel to it. The Outlawz verses go with the subject matter of the song, listen to them carefully. Of course they get outshined by Pac but thats only to be expected when you are comparing some young and upcoming rappers to the biggest rapper in the game. Bomb First has the Outlawz on it but thats one of my fav intros to an album ever, shit is a pure adrenaline rush, and Hail Mary needs no explanation. MATW is my second fav Pac album but lets face it, lyrically he was superior on 7 Day Theory......he was in a ZONE when he made that album. MATW is incredible, but with the exception of a couple songs, I dont think he was making songs as mindblowing as "Blasphemy", "Hail Mary", "Krazy", "Me And My Girlfriend", or "Hold Ya Head".....production 7 Day Theory was better too, some of the best beats he ever rapped over. MATW was more personal and introspective album from Pac which makes the album more attractive to some people, but 7 Days was his true peak as an overall songwriter and artist in general, and that would STILL be the case even if I did prefer MATW. Even the songs that were made during the sessions but never made the album were evidence of this: Starin Through My Rear View, Teardrops & Closed Caskets, Mr. President, etc.....in the end I guess its a matter of taste but I gotta put MATW second.....better then AEOM (though its still close), but not better then DK7. Im not shitting on MATW though, its one of my fav albums ever. MATW made him into a rap star, AEOM he became an icon, and 7 Day Theory he peaked as an artist and it cemented him as an urban legend.

4. Basically, you could say Pac made it ok for everyone else to do a double album. Before Pac did it, it wasnt considered a smart business move, because of the high price. Nowadays, it isnt a big deal, as cd's are less expensive in general. Back then more people were still buying tapes anyway lol. But for real, Pac dropping a double cd in such an era and selling multi-platinum numbers was revolutionary. He had the most expensive rap album on the charts, but he was still able to debut #1 and sell 600K in the first week, and several million overall. Thats part of the reason going back to my first point that this was the album to launch him into a global icon. He was on Death Row, the biggest rap label in the universe at the time, going on trips to Italy and doing shows across the world, surrounded by women and groupies, making movies, recording hundreds of new songs....he was living the life that many rock icons of the 70's were.....dude was on top of the world. Before he joined Death Row and made AEOM, he wasnt living it up like that. MATW went #1 but he was locked in a cell during that time and was still only amere rap star, and that was basically his lowest point. But as far as AEOM's influence goes, its everywhere today, for better or worse. Admittiedly, its probably for the worse, but Pac doesnt exactly have control over what either people do either. People are biting and/or influenced from this albums formula left and right......almost every mainstream rapper today will tell you AEOM is one of their most influential albums. So many songs from that album have been taken by todays rappers and either been re-done or they have used the same concept.....I think Ambitionz Az a Ridah alone has been used at least three times. Sure the album got some filler on the second disc, but I dont think that is really enough to stop it from being a classic. Some of his best songs ever are on here, and it has such a wide variety of tracks that you cant help but enjoy this album!! I actually play this album more often then even MATW or DK7, even though the other two are better. Its really an album you can put on at anytime regardless of your mood, production is that classic Death Row shit, and its basically a look into the mind of one of the most controversial and celebrated artists of our time: his pain, his joy, his love, his anger, his sadness. I look at AEOM as being kind of a documentation of the world and the people around him as he saw it at the time. This is an album that has stood the test of time, and along with both MATW and 7 Day Theory, will be played over an over by millions of listeners across the world for years to come.

5. Ok, so you consider MATW a classic, you didnt say anything about it in the previous post so I assumed u didnt consider it a classic either....I stand corrected.

Hahaha no need to get all mad man. Its the internet. Anyway, I used to have RIDICULOUSLY high standards to the point where I was close minded. I lowered them a little to see what else was out there, plus some albums you dont like at first kinda just come back to you one day. "The Fix" is a good example for me. I want the best of hip hop as well but they dont have to recite the dictionary and be talking about the meaning of life and all its merits in every song. Sometimes I just want some smooth shit that is nice that I can sit back and listen to. Im just as tired of all the bling bling, ice, cars, women, money, and im-harder-then you attitude that runs hip hop these days.....a good reason why I cant really get into shit like 50 cent, Dipset, etc......but this is why I dont see how you can say Pac' shit aint classic, especially the work he made during his peak. Dude was spitting some of the most potent lyrics ever, with an passion and an intensity not seen in todays hip hop. And while this is just my opinion, I think the beats he rapped over were much nicer and conveyed a certain mood that the production used today doesnt. We can only WISH we had more artists like Pac today spitting that deep shit. There are a select few artists who do, but they seem few and far between. Hip hop in the 90's was so much pure and raw, now everything just sounds the same pretty much.

All Eyez On Me Disc one is an epic by itself.....only song I didnt like was Whatz Yo Phone # No More Pain but thats not saying I couldnt listen to either.....I just prefer it better just sounds more concise

all I know is this listening to Pac and Biggie compared to the other rappers today (there peers at the time and now) just shows how much farther both were espcially Pac....its not just because they dies that sets them apart

I acutally use to not like No More Pain but I love it now ;)

and now that I that I went back and listened to Whatz Yo Phone # for the first time in a long time I now agree, Whatz Yo Phone # is a weak track.

Nice read...good points

so we came to a conclusion that even...AEOM, Makaveli and MATW are better then LAD

I personally think all three albums are better then LAD, of course im a Pac fan and that seems biased, but at the very least MATW and 7 Day Theory are definatly better almost for the fact they have better content and less filler. Ready to Die is Big's best album but I still wouldnt put it over MATW or 7 Day Theory at all.

I love AEOM but would never say its better then Illmatic or Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, for example.

^^ Hellrazor
sure...i agree with that.
personally i dont like BIG that much, i mean his flow/style is nice, but i dont really feel like listenin to him... and no...im not a BIG hater, or i just dont like him cuz pac didnt, its just my taste, opinion on music, i think he has sum great lyrics and songs but overall i dont like him that much.

And..i agree with that flawless shit, nothing is flawless, and AEOM is a classic, a blueprint as you said, just changed the rap game, flipped over, something that has a replay value like this is def. a classic, i doubt we're gonna keep listenin to 50's shit in 2015,
Well im not gonna repeat all your post, you just said real shit, and i rep that...

"Im just as tired of all the bling bling, ice, cars, women, money, and im-harder-then you attitude that runs hip hop these days"

Besides a few things in their isn't that what All Eyes on Me was, especially the "im-harder-than you" attitude.
I'm thinking when I say global icon I think of bigger then what you think global icon is. There are very very few global icon's around today. Michael Jackson, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, blah blah, from the rap world id say like Jay or 50 are global icons. There werent Tupac and Biggie gangs in South Africa until after their deaths, not before. Me Against the World and 7 Day are total different tastes from Tupac, I like Me Against the World better, I would say he was at his most lyrical their, not on 7 Day. He was more profound with what he was saying. The beats are better on 7 day. I think a lot more people like 7 Day better because he was "harder" on that album and that is attractive to most people. Ahhh I cant believe you aren't feelin One time that much, man he rides that beat so nice, such a mellow ass track just kick back and blaze to it. He comes correct too. Ahh that track is for me thats all that matters. but like I was sayin I dont need to lower my taste to like something, I just hold some shit in high high regard. Like I dont see anything touching Illmatic probably, thats the greatest rap album made to me, so far it doesnt get better. But back to the All Eyes arguement. It might of made a business impact but as far as artistic expression and as far as material is concerned it really didnt make that big of an impact. Its not like as far as the music goes he didnt do anything anyone did before. I really dont have time to say anymore but i will later.

AOEM + Whatz Ya Phone # is hotter then a mutha fucka .... some of you are sayin its whack just cuzz other members "dont like it" hhaha
