37-Pound Woman Gives Birth to Healthy Son

TULARE, Calif. (Feb. 10) - A woman who weighs 37 pounds, stands 3feet tall and uses a wheelchair has given birth to her first child.
Roy and Eloysa Vasquez show off their new son, Timothy Abraham Vasquez. Eloysa, 38, suffers from Type 3 osteogenesis imperfecta, a disorder that makes bones soft and easily broken.

Eloysa Vasquez, 38, suffers from Type 3 osteogenesis imperfecta, a disorder that makes bones soft and brittle.

Her tiny, distorted body left little room for a fetus to grow and Vasquez suffered two miscarriages before doctors at Stanford University's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital delivered her son, Timothy, by Cesarean section Jan. 24.

"We just took one day at a time. We had a lot of people praying for us. We just believed ... and here we have our son," Vasquez told The Fresno Bee for a story Thursday.

"She's a strong lady."
-- Husband Roy Vasquez

Baby Timothy weighed only 3 pounds, seven ounces because doctors had to deliver him eight weeks prematurely to protect the mother's fragile health. The child did not inherit his mother's genetic condition.

Vasquez' husband, Roy, said his wife's small stature can be deceiving: "She's a strong lady."

According to the university, only one in 25,000 to 50,000 births are to a mother with osteogenesis imperfecta, and even fewer involve moms with the severe form with which Vasquez was born.

Obstetrician James Smith estimated Timothy's birth was a one-in-a-million event.

Dont nobody in here say any nasty/wrong shit. I know it crossed alot of your minds.

Seriously, when you're that deformed, why even spawn more failures? No sense in creating life when 99.9% chance it's going to be a piece of shit like the person giving birth to it.

Because she has a genetic problem that automatically makes her a piece of shit? And automatically means she shouldnt be able to enjoy giving life or being a mother? And obviously even with that "99.9 %" you say the son still came through perfectly healthy.

Good for her and her husband. :thumb:

It is a healthy baby. Didn't inherit the condition :thumb:

So which is it, 1 in 25,000, or 1 in a million?

its still kinda nasty...the whole having sex with a deformed person....really, that's really all i got from that.... i do see it as a miracle that the child is healthy, but still, i think that woman should be grateful she's alive....there's no need to reproduce no matter how badly you want a child....to bring someone into this world with the same disabilities is a crime...end of story...to have a child with a severe deformity is a crime...he'll unncessarily suffer the way the mother or father did....really..i dont know what else to say...its wrong...it's not right...

all i have to say is congrats to the parents. thats seriously a miracle.

and i believe everybody has the right to have sex and be parents. even if you're deformed or retarded or simply gross.

KAMIKAZI was joking when he called her a piece of shit, but I agree with what he's saying. shattered dreams said that even though the women has a genetic problem she should be able to enjoy giving life and being a mother, but really, when you have those kind of problems there's a certain amount of resposibility expected to not risk passing it on. She's just lucky it came out right, obviously very lucky if this shit made the news.

well i'm sure this woman took into account the fact that she might be bringing life to a deformed child. But i'm also sure she discussed this with her doctor and assured that the possibility of passing this on is slim. Think about it, if it could be pased on that easily, wouldn't there be more people with this condition? Just because the article doesn't reference any of this doesn't mean it didn't happen and people shouldn't just jump to conclusions like this

As my post stated above, the chances of it turning out normal are obviously slim if this made the news.
