Tupac Amaru Shakur’s Last Album

February 11th 2006 Posted to Interviews
Makaveli.com recently contacted the Estate of Shakur once again to try and get more answers in regards to current and future Tupac Shakur projects. In our last interview in October, we felt many questions the fans had still went unanswered and we were told to contact them again in February; presumably when more details about the next Tupac album would have been decided. Although little is known about the next and last Tupac Shakur album, the following has been confirmed by Makaveli.com:

- It’s the last album
- It will be released on September 13th, 2006
- The album will be distributed through Amaru / Interscope
- Tom Whalley is in charge of the A&R on the new LP

So far, this is it. The past two interviews we have done have had a lot of questions unanswered, so we can only assume at this time, the project is still at it’s very early stages. There is some other related projects coming out however that we were updated on.

First, the pop-up book titled “Tupac Shakur: Legacy” is still scheduled for a 2006 release as we posted in October. This book is written by Jamal Joseph w/ Molly Monjauze and Gloria Cox as story consultants.

Secondly, the Tupac Shakur biography titled “All Eyez On Me” has taken a huge change of direction. It’s no longer being written by Quinton Skinner “because of the way in which the Interactive Book (Tupac ‘Legacy’) has turned out, Afeni has decided to go another direction with this book all together” (Dina Lapolt, Lapolt Law P.C.). The book will no longer be published by Simon & Schuster and we were told we’d be informed as to it’s progress.

This latest interview was not verbatim as many questions were still unanswered. We will keep you informed as we are informed.

Special thanks to Dina Lapolt and members of the Estate for providing information and their continuous support.

no way in hell it's the last one.

look at it this way. afeni's heart is in the tasf right now, right? her son's music and maintaining his celeb status is what pays the bulk of the bills. that being said, combined with the fact that there are well over a hundred unused or unleaked tracks available for their use, this i can say with confidence won't be the last album.

if it is the last album, maybe they wouldn't mind me picking up some slack and putting my own 2pac albums with new material out every 13 months :)

problem is that i have a future (and a present) and i wouldn't jeopardize it for some lame bootleg. if amaru gave me the nod, and i agree to give all profits back to the tasf, then i'd do it. alas, that's just a pipe dream.

There are really still that many tracks left? Damn. In late 1997, I remember the Estate claiming that there were 153 unreleased songs (give or take a couple), and since then (after Gridlock'd and Gang Related soundtracks and the RUSD album) there have been around 80 unreleased tracks released on Tupac albums--and I excluded posthumous remixes of old songs (e.g., My Block and Loyal to the Game), remixes of songs on the same album (e.g., Let Em Have It and Thugz Mansion), and even unreleased songs from other albums (e.g., Initiated and Don't Stop). So that leaves a bit less than 80 left based on what the Estate claimed in late 1997. But if you say that there are still over 100 tracks remaining, then that is just awesome... plus that must mean you have access to tracks that Amaru either can't get a hold of for whatever reason or doesn't know exist.

It seems like you've met your fair share of individuals affiliated with Pac's music (producers, rappers, etc.)... have you networked with individuals close enough to make this pipe dream a reality? I think that nearly 10 years after Pac's death, it's evident that E.D.I. and Kastro are clearly not the best for the job, plus I'm sure you would be willing to do it for a cut much smaller than what they probably get for their diluting of great music.

i have secured material that i know amaru doesn't have, namely because they have threatened me to try to get a copy. review any unreleased list, and you'll see that from the unused tracks alone there's enough for a minimum of two albums.
