NEW YORK (AP) -- Time to face the facts: Dave Chappelle's hit Comedy Central series isn't coming back, says one of its stars.

" 'Chappelle's Show' is over, man. Done," comic Charlie Murphy told TV Guide. "It took me a long time to be able to say those words, but I can say it pretty easy now, because it's the truth."

Chappelle's sudden "spiritual retreat" to South Africa on the eve of his show's third season has left the series in limbo since May. About half of a new season had been filmed before Chappelle left, Murphy said.

"I'm disappointed it ended the way it did, but I'm not angry with anybody," he said. " 'Chappelle's Show' was like the Tupac of TV shows. It came out, it got everybody's attention, it was a bright shining star, but it burned out and for some strange reason, it burned out quick."

Comedy Central has always said the door is open for Chappelle to return, spokeswoman Aileen Budow said Wednesday.

Network chief Doug Herzog met with Chappelle on June 3, but that has been their last communication, she said.

Murphy, the older brother of comic Eddie Murphy, said his two seasons with Chappelle made him a star.

"Now I can go out and do stand-up," he said. "I'm getting movie offers. It's off the hook. Me getting to the next level or whatever's going to happen is going to come from the next things I do, but 'Chappelle's Show' served its purpose and I'll always be grateful

I wouldnt say he is bigger than he ever was, i would have said people are starting to forget about him. He will always be remembered, but as you can see from record sales, he is only just scraping platinum.

As for chappelle show, sad to see it go, it was funny as hell.

He's just barely scraping platinum because some blonde haired white boy fucked his shit up. Had it had different producers, better video(s), and better promotion, this material could've sold 4-5 million. A couple months ago somebody said that 4-5 million downloaded it, but only a million bought it. That's saying something...the fans didn't like the album, not that the fans are forgetting about Pac. Just wait until his "final" CD, it's going to be awesome and it'll sell a lot of copies.

Pac never burned out, hes bigger than he ever was now. His career came to an abrupt halt, and didnt fade out. But his music never died, and never will

Pac was a lot bigger in 1995/1996, he was untouchable. The legacy is nothing like the man, Tupac was a lot bigger and greater then the legacy makes him out to be.

why u people care so much bout album sales

I think the lack of album sales are more to do with poor promotion and no singles, how many copies do you expect an album to sell with like one video & barely no promotion??? all they had to do was drop a commercial with "2PAC & EMINEM HIPHOPS DEADLIEST COMBINATION FINALLY UNITED" or some bullshit tagline like that and the teeny boppers would of went wild and the album would of sold crazy, but its the same old story with Pac albums since he died, no promotion whatsoever, its like they wanna sell as much Pac as possible without spending a dime promoting it, Interscope know he's dead so there can only be so much more music, so theyre probably thinking...why spend all this money promotiong a guy who can only give us like a maximum 2 more albums???? it's not exactly the same as promoting some 21 year old up and coming rapper who could drop them 10 more albums, you see?? anyway, ive gone off topic so ill stop lol
