It must have fell out of my pocket when I was changing or something. I literally took my shorts off ause: and put em in my backpack, during that transition it fell out somehow. I got lucky

So the Galaxy tab is officially dead for me. FUCK CARRIERS, seriously. No video calling over 3g only wi-fi, they won't run on hspa+ or 4g, you can't make voice calls like you can with the euro version etc. The lesson here is carriers will instantly state that they can handle the broadband capabilities of these devices but for some reason they don't allow it, makes no sense. Carriers piss me off, they really do ruin the greatness of what Android can be. There is a wi-fi only version coming out but i don't know, still pricey. Hopefully xda hooks the thing up, I'm positive they will but you shouldn't have to do anything to use your device properly.

I wonder if carriers will be such bitches once LTE starts to roll out

Sounds like carriers in the US are really Jewish and I don't think that LTE could change anything since even freaking UMTS is enough to handle a smooth video call, not to even mention HSDPA or HSPA+ which could easily handle like 20 video calls at the same time. Shit, I tried video calls on an edge network and it worked. Not as smooth as I'd like but it did in lower quality.

I mean - our carriers are even inferior because of 24/36-month deals with shitty phones in ridiculous prices (though they don't modify phones in any way) but western european carriers rule.

I see. Yeah, I mean, the iPad came out months ago. So if you want to compete, you gotta offer more shit than just an Android OS. But I kinda stopped paying attention to these "tab" wars.

I wonder if the carriers are actually ordering versions of the Tab from Samsung that has had the telephone hardware removed, or whether they are simply removing the software.

If it's the latter, it'll be easy to fix that.

And the "no video calls over 3G" is simple to fix as well. It's very simple to trick the device into thinking it's on Wifi.

Yeah Casey that's why I was saying xda will take care of it. Just sucks. I shouldn't have to go through the trouble of rooting my shit just to get it to work properly.

And yeah the iPad has the same problems but some things have already been worked around. Like you can do 3g video calls on jailbroken iPad's.

Well, when you root your phone, you get more than the carriers imagined you could. Hacking in general. VZW wasn't expecting the Droid Eris and Droid to make their way to MetroPCS and Cricket (smaller CDMA carriers) yet there are plenty of members on the forum that are flashing them to those networks.

I know what you're saying about getting the unrestricted experience by rooting, but the benefits extend so far beyond just getting a full stock experience. Free tethering FTW!

I used both the Desire HD and the Desire Z (G2) at the HTC event last Wednesday. Stupidly fast. Like, unbelievably fast. Every app on them ran like a champ, instantly.

The G2 will most likely be the next ADP (Android Developer Phone), at least in the US.

Usually the main developer phone is the one that shares the most similarities with other phones on the market (mainy processor and screen resolution).
G1 had the same qualcomm processor that most phones from that era had so apps were optimized to them. Then N1 shared the same 1ghz qualcomm that most phones were supposed to have. The Hummingbird came kind of unexpected with A8 but still it was fairly similar.

On the other hand now it seems that there's a much bigger variety. But for some reason I can't see the G2 being anywhere as popular as N1 and G1 were. Not because it's a bad phone but because it doesn't stand out in any way and doesn't seem anywhere as appealing as those previous Android flagships have.
It doesn't really bring anything new or better. Just average.
Technically it's struggling to be on par with previous high-end Smartphones with Hummingbird while other features are not that interesting imo and there are much more powerfull phones coming soon (probably with a much more interesting feature set).

so i was watching the last 10 minutes of the chelsea vs blackpool game when i got back home from work, and they advertised the Samsung Galaxy S at least 3 or 4 times in those last 10 minutes on the electronic advertisement boards on the side of the football pitch. this is due to samsung being chelsea's official club sponsor.

good to see some android exposure at football matches.
