I have better things to do (I don't) than peruse dozens of android blogs studying the differences between LED, AMOLED, and S-LED screens on phones that did not even come out yet.

(expected) lower price plan, super amoled, 4" screen, good battery life vs qwerty keyboard, scorpion cpu, and phone which cyanogen will get; aka Samsung Galaxy S vs T-Mobile G2.
QWERTY keyboard + Cyanogen getting one = G2 all the freakin' way.

Btw, I'm going to the HTC event tomorrow. They're expected to reveal the G2 and the Desire HD (and possibly some WP7 devices, maybe other things too) in the morning, then what I am going to is the afterparty where there will be devices to demo and SOME people will get free ones, on an as-yet-unknown basis.

I'm showing up rocking my Android T-Shirt so hopefully that helps my cause lol.

Yeah. They actually added an additional venue so I don't know which one to go to. Probably the second, as the first is a steak/fish restaurant and I don't want to be smelling that shit all night. The second is a pasta place.

They aren't big venues and they are going to be rammed out so I plan to get there early. Nothing is scheduled to start until 6.30, I might head down there around 4.30 ish.

Too bad you couldn't go to the Google zeitgeist event. They gave away 600 Sony Bravia's, google tv(whatever it may be), subscription to dish network, and geek squad comes and installs it at you house. It's like being on Oprah's Christmas special

I'm certain i'm late but I am too lazy to go through several pages of this massive thread :/

The G2 Specs have finally been officially released?

We've theoretically had nearly all of these numbers confirmed piece by piece, but there's something eerily comforting about HTC tossing it all together on a single page for our perusal. As anticipated, the HTC-built T-Mobile G2 will be powered by an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor, and it'll boast Android 2.2, 4GB of ROM, 512B of RAM, a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen as well as a five megapixel camera with auto focus and flash. There's also a GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 1300mAh battery, all of which may or may not cause you to drool. Hit the source link if you need to see for yourself.

For you super tech peeps, how does this rate amongst the other phones out currently? Also, how do you guys think the screen on the G2 will compare to that of the Galaxy S? I saw that phone in person and OMG... amazing.

So im finally thinking about upgrading to another phone. I have been using a weak ass Iphone 3G for the past year and i have never liked it and i have finally decided to get a new phone. I was thinking about getting the Xperia X10 since i can get it for $30 with an upgrade but what would you guys suggest? I really love the way the X10 handles but i would take suggestions on better phones.

I think AT&T has the worst selection of Android phones. T-Mo, VZW, are the way to go. Sprint has the Evo and Epic, though. Does LA have 4G? Otherwise it might be a waste.

From the Qualcomm website:

Powered by Snapdragon™ or MSM™ chipsets, smartphones now coming to market are lighter and more powerful than ever. With larger, high-resolution display screens and faster processing, smartphones give you reliable voice, data, Internet, and GPS navigation-but now in an even thinner form factor that still fits in your pocket.

Well, we've come to the conclusion that the screen isn't quite as good as the Galaxy S, technically speaking, but since we haven't actually seen a G2 in real life yet we can't be sure. I maintain that the difference in marginal.

I would rather get a G2, because it'll be rooted very quickly running the latest CyanogenMod and I require a physical keyboard. Fingers crossed I manage to get a free one at the HTC event later today, although I doubt I'll get one.

They are both great phones with a similar level of performance based on scores.

I wouldn't get the X10 at this point. It's been around for nearly 6 months and was designed over a year ago. Technically the specs are brilliant but due to Sony being lazy fuckers the thing is still running Android 1.6, and is only supposed to be getting a 2.1 upgrade which doesn't make sense since 2.2 is out now and 3.0 is around the corner.

If I were you I would get the Samsung Captivate. It's easily the best Android device on AT&T.

exactly, the Xperia X10 should really have launched with 2.1 after all the delays. it would be a more understandable that it launched on 1.6 if it had been released on the original release date. But they didnt update the Rachael UI for Eclair or FroYo (as of yet).

Any of the Samsung Galaxy S variants are good, but you'll be wanting to stay with AT&T to avoid the cancellation fee, right?

Thanks for the info Casey!! The information I found on the screen for the G2.. I honestly couldn't find a way to compare it to the information that's out on the Samsung Galaxy and it's possibly just because I didn't put enough effort into the research process lol. But thank you for the comparison.

They are supposed to do pre-orders at like Best Buy mobile in the States from what i'm hearing. I'm going to call T-Mobile shortly to ask about an upgrade to that specific model.

Also, Sandeep thanks a lot for the links!!!

I'm going to need someone's help with rooting my phone once I get it. Thanks in advance. LOL

Well, screen on Galaxy S is visibly more awesome than casual Amoleds like on Desire, Nexus One etc. I suppose that G2 will use the same or similar screen. Super Amoled is just better, even if not by THAT much in theory it does look really great in real life. I suggest you see it for yourself because I think you will love it. If you won't see much of a difference (which I doubt;) then G2 is more for you.

To me Galaxy S vs. G2 (in theory, because G2 isn't out yet) is bigger and better display vs. Qwerty keyboard and a Led flash.
Also Xda support > Samdroid support but both phones will surely have great community support.
G2 is supposed to be coming out with A2.2 installed which is a + again.

In short - if Super Amoled screen on Samsung won't impress you enough then get yourself a G2 :)

I've seen the Samsung in person and it's amazing. I like the brand Samsung for electronics just in general... all of my TVs are Samsung (random).

I may wait to be able to actually see the G2 before making a choice. Then again, I do currently rely heavily on my Qwerty and that may end up being the deal breaker for me.

I called T-Mobile today and I am not able to pre-order yet.. but they suspect I will be able to do so later in the week. The CSR will call me back when I can pre-order apparently. He states that current T-Mobile customers who already have the G1 will get first pick for the G2.

Does anyone know if the G2 will only be released in the one color option? Or will there be multiples like the G1?

Nice, im gonna look into it. On a side note, the phone doesn't have to be an AT&T phone. AT&T was just the only company that carries the X10 over here. I currently have Tmobile and im running my unlocked Iphone 3G on it. It honestly doesn't matter what company the phone is on i just want a nice phone worth the money and running android.
