For the record Smacky, MGSiegler who wrote that article is a diehard Apple fanboy and doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. Every time there's a pro-Apple or anti-Android article on TechCrunch, it's by him.

Now, take a look at this anti-Android article written by Siegler just last week.

Just like the link you posted (his most recent article), it's misinformed and best, and completely fucking wrong at worst.

Now, look at the most popular comment underneath that link I posted. Guess who wrote it.

Yep - I wrote a few paragraphs defending Android.... and what's that? 514 people clicked the "Like" button in agreement with my post. The most popular comment on the whole article.

And you saying "Android is growing too fast for it's own good" is flat-out wrong too and shows you have VERY little understanding of how this industry works. Very little. I wish I could share some of the insights from my cousin who works on the Android team, but I can't. I shouldn't even know them. But you're wrong and we'll leave it at that.

However, I'd like you to elaborate, pretty much so I can have fun shooting down every point you make to get it into your head as to WHY you're wrong.

It does look good.

I wouldn't run it on a smartphone (altho the new HTC HD7 running it has amazing rumored specs, freakin 4.5" screen lol) because Microsoft's online services are garbage.

But if they bring out the next Zune HD running WP7, I'd consider getting one. I've never owned any sort of MP3 player device, and it doesn't really make sense to get an Android one...... I don't need two Android devices. And obviously I'd rather walk around with a fucking Walkman from 1984 than have an iPod Touch.

Because:

A) You failed to explain WHY you felt that way

and

B) Regardless of any reason you give, that overall conclusion is wrong.

And yeah, if the point is wrong and/or stupid, I will ask someone to elaborate so I can have fun showing them why they're wrong. If you posted something about how eating meat/dairy is super healthy or how religion is the best thing since sliced bread, or how Vanilla Ice was the greatest rapper of all time, I'd do the same thing.

Cos all that shit is wrong. The world doesn't need any more misinformation or ill-thought-out points of view.

Actually, the best comparison to make re: smartphone OS wars is with the personal computing wars of the late 80's and early 90's.

Just like in this scenario, Apple started out ahead. But (again, just like in this scenario) their OS was closed, proprietary, and only shipped on THEIR hardware.

Boom! Along comes Microsoft. Windows, unlike Mac OS, was shipped out to as many hardware manufacturers that wanted it. Any hardware manufacturer could pay a fee to Microsoft to use their OS.

20 something years later?

Windows market share - more than 90%
Mac OSX market share - Less than 10%

And that's how it works.

The Android distribution model is even better, because it's free AND open-source, meaning hardware manufacturers don't even have to notify Google to use it and can modify it to suit their needs. Hence everything from TV's, microwaves, fridges, car entertainment systems, printers, tablets, netbooks, etc.....all running the best mobile OS out there.

Although, if they want the core Google apps, they have to pay a fee to license those.

LOL at Google being "no different from RIM".

That's a terrible comparison. RIM is just like Apple - closed source OS on their own hardware. And rapidly losing market share.

I can understand that. But many people don't like Windows now, despite growing up with the software. You don't see people losing interest in Android after sometime? At least once something newer and possibly better comes out?

I can agree that Android is pretty good right now, and for the most part, beats the competition. But don't you see Android as shooting up very quickly, as it has already, and then fizzling? Look at Microsoft now. Is it really as "innovative" as its competitors?

Another thing I fear is Android becoming too popular. You don't see Google resting on its laurels at this point and slipping back?

Having all these devices running android can't be good. It confuses the consumer on which phone and carrier to choose?

I thought the same before about 5-row keyboards, but I actually checked out a 4-row keyboard on a WinMo HTC device and it didn't really make any difference so I'm cool with it.

Also, because the G2 keyboard stretches across the whole width of the device unlike the G1, the keys are bigger, which is nice.

That's strange. I've had my G1 a lot longer than you have and there's no wear and tear at all, except for on the paint where it has chipped in a few places and the little cover thing that covered up the USB port which fell off a while back. There's nothing wrong with my keyboard at all.

TechRadar is wrong, it's a Scorpion chip, not a Snapdragon.

Make no mistake - this is a high-end device.

No front-facing camera is a minor annoyance.

Frankly - nobody I know with iPhone 4's, HTC Evo's or Galaxy S's is even using it.

Hell, my wife's Nokia N95 had a front-facing camera three years ago and she never used it, not even once.

I don't like this whole attitude of "Oh, Apple's doing it so it must be worth doing". It's a "Keeping up with the Joneses" attitude when frankly we all know Android and the high-end hardware running Android is superior, regardless of a front-facing camera.

i hardly used the front facing camera. the connection was average, slow frame rate and drained the battery on already terrible devices when it came to conserving energy.

I have to press the space bar and some other keys a few times because they dont work, and much harder than the keys that are fine. andthensometimes my text comesoutlike this, meaning i have to go back and edit the message. time consuming and frustrating.

I for one just want to be able to utilize a front facing cam, I'll actually use it. I skype with my fam in Cali and Hawaii and shit so being able to do it on the go would be sick.

i had a front facing camera on my Nokia 6280 and Nokia N95. I only used it on my 6280 to test it out because it was a new feature ive never had before. i used it about twice very briefly on my N95, or was it my 6280, i cant remember. but there was no requirement for it really. i dont think video calling has taken off, and it will never be as popular as calling or texting.

so for me right now its between the samsung galaxy s which i could pick up for a nice price, vs the G2 which will be fairly new by the time my upgrade is due. since i will have left my job by then i would be swayed by the cheaper device, super amoled, good battery life and a big screen.

but the benchmarks on the g2 look very impressive, it has a bigger screen than the G1, and a qwerty keyboard. also cyanogen will be getting one meaning i can continue flashing the roms over and get gingerbread and maybe even honeycomb.
