im sure ADW launcher was built into CM6 (FroYo). In the meantime, i've made a nandroid backup and have reverted to CM 5.0.7 (Eclair) ROM.

I'm just waiting for the CM6.1 experimental ROM, and i should flash that on top.

Yeah I also think that LauncherPro is hands down the best. It's also the fastest one and offers a lot of customizations at the same time.

What carriers do you have in Ireland, and which carrier would you prefer to be on? Are you looking for something on a contract or to buy it unlocked, outright?

if you want something very basic with android, a cheaper and basic option is the T-mobile pulse and pulse mini which you should be able to pick up for around £100 or less.

Even better than that, for £99 at the carphone warehouse is the LG Optimus for £99.

They are all touchscreen only devices on android.

It seems Vodafone Ireland have the Samsung Galaxy S.

Samsung i9000 Galaxy S - Pay Monthly - Vodafone Ireland

They also have the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, another decent phone although it hasn't yet been upgraded to the latest version of Android, although it apparently will be soon.

Meteor have the Galaxy S, HTC Hero, Xperia X10, HTC Legend, HTC Desire and a few others:

HTC Desire on Meteor - https://phones.meteor.ie/phones/htc_desire/#what-you-get-tab

O2 Ireland also have the Desire and the X10.

3 have the Galaxy S and some lower-end Android models.

If I were you I would be looking at the HTC Desire or the Galaxy S right now.

Spec-wise there's not a massive difference between the two, but the Galaxy S has a slightly bigger screen and an additional front-facing camera for video calls. So you'd probably have to pay a little bit more for it. The Desire is a seriously good phone too, my cousin has one and it's fast as hell.

You should try going to a few stores and seeing if you can demo the two devices and what kind of deal you should get. But don't buy from a store, buy over the phone because if you get either of those phones, then you can bullshit the person saying that a rival network is offering you a better deal.

They were saying something about how Samsung was gonna get their shit together and put an end to the shortages of AMOLED screens next year. Let's hope so.

I'm a bit confused on this new change in Flash 10.1 requirements. They're saying the Droid 1 can't support it after all, or that Adobe didn't recommend it. If I'm rooted and OCd, am I still not experiencing it the way they wanted me to?

thanks for that info.

i will probably be getting a new phone soon so ill look at those ones.
There are also cheaper Androids if you're on a lower plan,. From mid-ends like HTC Legend to low-end HTC Wildfire or LG Swift. I see that Wilfire, Spica and X10 mini pro are on 3 but their offer doesn't seem to be good.

For example these cost 49 Euro on a 40 euro plan with a 12 month contract or are free on a 18-month contract (yes, I envy that. Our shortest contracts are 24-month long).

Spica is the best of them but the oldest. Right now it's unnknown whether it'll be supported after Android 2.2. X10 is very small and Wildfire is pretty average for a lower mid-end Android.

I can speak from experience, no matter how poor and desperate you are for an Android device, get a top-notch one. Do not settle for the shit with recycled internals from phones months older than it. The Eris eats a dick and with this huge push for Flash-compatible devices and bigger, better screens, and Android 3.0, you need to get something more recent.

Look on Amazon where you sign a new deal with a carrier and can get some ridiculous discounts. That's how it is in the States but I can't imagine Ireland or anywhere else being much different.

Spica and X10 pro mini are really great for mid-ends (though X10 has a small screen). I have a Samsung Spica which was released almost a year ago and I am really satisfied with it. The only reason I want to change it is when I hear about all of these 4 inch super amoled powerhorses but then when I think about it my phone is totally trouble free and does everything I want so I wouldn't want to risk getting something technically better but that I'd be less satisfied with.
Actually a bigger AMOLED screen is the only thing that I'd want because the 800mhz in my phone is good enough to make everything work as smooth as it can.
If I'm satisfied with it then I'm sure most people who don't care about ultra newest and fastest phones will be too. Looking from a different perspective mid-ends are much cheaper while being not THAT inferior. I mean, a year ago they would be the most awesome thing.

yup. i read that they are going from producing 3 million a month to 30 million a month by mid year next year
With all the devices using it, it's not surprising. The Samsung Tab looks to be big and with all these Galaxy S phones coming out now, it's not gonna get any easier.

I read VZW was offering a BOGO on the Fascinate. Damn that's a good deal!

now that i think of it, to date ive convinced 2 people (a couple) to each get Droids, 2 people to get HTC Wildfires, 1 person to get the SE X10, 1 person to get the X10 Mini Pro, 1 to get a HTC Desire, and 1 to get a Samsung Galaxy S. Im working on convincing some of my closer relatives to get some Android because then we can use the gtalk service and apps together.

Lol, my aunty wanted the G1 because the ABC Animals kept my 3 year old cousin busy. she was getting frustrated at the toucscreen awww lol. it was so unresponsive to her haha.

AMOLED or Super AMOLED, or both?
Super AMOLED is just Samsung's improved AMOLED with a few technologies that are implemented while mounting the display. The display itself only has a thin polarizer/filter/glass "protecting it" which gives it that "pop out" feel.
In case of most new Samsung Super Amoled screens it's protected by a very thin layer of Gorilla Glass which paradoxally makes them the most durable displays ever used in a phone. I was wondering why they aren't making a hype around it like Apple does with their shitty retina ;)

i know, one of the major factors in me getting my next phone will be if it has super amoled or not, so most likely it'll be a samsung. the retina display is good because if you put the screen very close up to your eyes, you cant see the pixels and its crystal clear. but that isnt even needed from the distance that everyone uses their phone from. i'd therefore rather have a phone with a screen that is more efficient, durable, vibrant.

so far they have the wave and the galaxy s series which have super amoled. i hope to see a lineup of devices announced with the same if not improved technologies.

anyone have any estimation of when gingerbread is going to be released? i know they have announced 3.5 as honeycomb, set for release in 2011 - but my guess is that'll be Q4.

edit: okay, around october... http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/06/...esolution-1ghz-minimum-specs-mid-oct-release/
