Realistically the Milestone 2 will take 6 to 12 months to be available. *Sigh* Ill buy it when it is though. But right now am loving the Milestone. Have hit no real limitations yet.

Are you not moving to the States soon?

I finally put something down for the "Device" section on AndroidForums and put "Samsung Sambo." So far, it has gone relatively under the radar. No one knows what "sambo" means and they probably assume that Samsung really made a phone with that name on it, they just haven't heard it.

The second someone on the forum asks me what the Sambo is, I'm gonna die laughing and just tell them I got a prototype phone due to be released on VZW by Samsung later this year and that I'm running 3.0 on it and can't speak about it. I think it would cause the forum to riot that there's 3.0 outside of the Google engineers.

But then ALL facebook goes two twitter or you can do vice versa, but I like to choose what goes to what or if both go to it. For me facebook and twitter are two different things with two totally different posting habits.
there is an option on the yakket application to add tags within your tweet. i.e. on twitter if i write my message and put a '#ts' tag in there somewhere it will sync to facebook. without the #ts it will only remain on twitter. i made that tag myself, abberviated for tweetsync. you can create your own within the options.

So... My girlfriend got a Samsung Galaxy S today. Any app recommendations? She's not a nerd like us so no need for root, just some cool things...

basketball app is wicked!! (and will be much better on that big screen)
picsay is cool, but pro version has more features.
opera mini is a fast browser.

air hockey game
jewels (game)
maths workout

classic breaks (gives you instrumentals, you can freestyle over them).

truth or dare would be a good one to play with her.

'funnytest' is good fun.

goggles, shopper, imdb or flixster movies.

any of the sunflat games (papiriver is the best one IMO)

Play! Curling, raging thunder, rockstar, shot, throttlrcopter, traffic control (game), flight durector (game), throw a panda, meebo im, hangman, funny jokes, food finder, foursquare, four online (connect 4 game), BeatTheChimp, 3D Pong, FX camera is cool.

hypnotic spiral is good to show people and they're like "no take that away from me!!" haha. the worst it can do is give someone an epileptic fit so be careful who you do it to. you can make the spiral spin very fast or slow, different colours (default is black/white). doesnt do anything else though.

Ah I have an offer to exchange my Spica for a Samsung Wave. I'd have to pay like a 100$ and that phone would be brand new. The price on these phones is VERY nice considering its specs. It's almost as good as the Galaxy S but has a smaller display (3,3 inch wide screen) and is 50% cheaper here. The only problem is that it's running Bada OS and not Android.

I had the chance to play with the Wave. It's a good little phone, but I'm not sold on Bada. If you're already accustomed to Android, you probably won't like it as much. If you're in real need of a new phone cause you have trouble with yours or wtv - I'd say go for it. If you can wait, I suggest you do until you find a phone you really want.

Oh, I got to play with the Galaxy S, it's seriously epic. I'm thinking about just picking that up now.

My galaxy seems to be running a little slow at the moment.
Many Droid owners, myself included, have found that Froyo has been lagging the screen quite a bit. When I exit an app or browser, the home screen is blank and the icons appear a few seconds later. Sometimes they don't at all.

I deleted my custom ROM and flashed the latest version of Froyo after a clean wipe and cache clear and it has been fine ever since.

I am overclocked to about 1000Mhz max and 550Mhz min. It's amazing on my battery life and the phone is stupid fast. I don't notice MUCH of a difference from it running full-blast at 1.25Ghz.

So my suggestion, clean wipe.

/\ I don't think Pittsey is rooted or running a custom ROM....or on FroYo for that matter. So that advice is irrelevant to his situation.

I believe he's running 2.1 with TouchWiz UI....aka the stock setup on the Galaxy S.

Oh, well then screw it. I thought the Galaxy was running 2.2.

Someone explain to me why such a big deal is being made about 2.2? They've had ROMs for it for a month or two now. Why are all the blogs going crazy naming features those of us that had rooted have had for some time now?

I understand it's "big" because it's officially official from the carrier, Google, etc. But those that have not rooted their phones yet, do you think they really care at this point? Those that have the DInc and have not rooted because they don't know it exists, do they really care about the next iteration of Android and the features it brings? If they did....they would have rooted. No?

I'm just explaining what goes through my mind. I cringe every time I read "Verizon says Droid will not get wireless tether because its hardware doesn't support it," which is a crock of shit and VZW knows it. They just don't want it to cannibalize sales.

But....do those owning Droids that don't read blogs and don't know about root really care?

I understand if we get something for the N1, like 3.0 and every iteration after that. Blog away!! But why do blogs act like the DInc getting 2.2 or raving about 2.2 on the D2 they're testing is the best shit ever, when most of the people that read those blogs are rooted and have experienced 2.2 already?

Sony Ericsson Working on Android 3.0 Gaming Handset | Android Phone Fans

Let me preface this entire post with one statement: If Sony Ericsson can pull off what they are promising, we can safely forgive them for their Xperia line of so-so Android 1.6 handsets. That being said, SE is late into the development of an Android handset reminiscent of the PSP Go. That’s right, and not only will the handset look like a Samsung Captivate made love to the Go, but it will also feature an Android 3.0-based ecosystem built up for a superior gaming experience.

The hardware we are dealing with? A large screen between 3.7 and 4.1-inches with WVGA or better resolution, a 5MP camera, and a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. The real kicker though is the inclusion of not a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, but rather a slide-out game pad featuring a D-pad, touch pad for analog control, and your standard four Playstation/PSP buttons. The device is said to carry the Xperia branding, but should also be receiving Playstation branding as well. The picture included is Engadget’s mock-up of the device.
But all that hardware means nothing without games to back it up, and SE apparently has teamed up with Google not only to get Android 3.0 on the handset with a custom skin, but also to bring a new section of games tailored for the device to the Android Market. Initially these games will only be available for the SE/PS device, and will be graphically equivalent to what we see in PSP or PSX titles. Games being tossed around include God of War, Modern Warfare, and Little Big Planet. Provided other handsets meet the hardware requirements, they may become available for the wider Android world at a later date. Right now word is the phone could launch as soon as October, further stoking the flames that the new version of Android could be launching sooner rather than later.
If this all pans out, it will score a major win for both Sony Ericsson and Google. SCEA will bring along a large catalog of published games that can be ported to Android while also pushing for new gaming development. Sony gets to have the makings of a hit handset and possibly the first real break-out mobile Playstation device. Android gets one step closer to being the ultimate mobile platform. OK, we know it might conjure up thoughts of the flop that was the Nokia N-Gage, but that was a time before smartphones had really taken off as an avenue for mobile gaming, and with this SE device being only an off-shoot of Android it enters into an already richly supported ecosystem. So who is excited?

Droid 2 R2-D2 edition spied in the wild, ready to repair your X-wing -- Engadget

If you compare this shot of the bespoke R2-D2 Droid 2 to the background of Verizon's teaser site (inset), you can see this is almost certainly the genuine article -- and we knew that Verizon intended to intro this thing at the Star Wars-themed Celebration V conference kicking off today, so this is all making a lot of sense. We admit, we were kind of hoping for a graphic that was a little more... you know, R2-D2-shaped, but when it comes to astromech-themed gear, we'll take what we can get.

The answer to your question is simple. The part of your quote that is bolded is simply not true.

Perfect example is the two main guys in the IT department at the company my wife works at. One has a Droid, one has an Evo. Both read tech blogs, neither are rooted. Why? Well, shit, these guys are working 40 hours a week minimum, often more, and they have wives and kids. They don't have time to research how to root and do all this stuff, even though since they're Linux experts they would find it incredibly easy. But they stay busy at work, and they stay busy spending time with their wives/kids at home.

It's totally incorrect to assume that people that read tech blogs would have rooted. Shit, I didn't even root for 4-5 months until after I first got my G1, and believe me, there was LOTS more reasons to root back in the Android 1.1 days.

These days most people are perfectly happy to wait for the official updates. Not everybody cares about hacking and fucking with their devices.... especially if they rely heavily on their phone for work as well as for entertainment.

Android’s Awesome Gesture Search: Turn Your Phone And Write With Your Finger

Back in March, Google launched an experimental new app for Android called Gesture Search. It’s an awesome idea: you can search for anything on your device simply by writing a letter with your finger on the touchscreen. Today, they’ve made it even more accesible thanks to a new flip-to-activate feature.

With Gesture Search 1.2, all you have to do is turn your phone to the side and then move it back to the regular position to activate Gesture Search. You can fine-tune the sensitivity in the settings as well to make sure you don’t, you know, activate this every single time you move your Android phone.

Google is smart to play up these types of features as they’re something Apple is unlikely to allow with the iPhone (granted, it was Google who made this particular app). Between this, voice search, and Swype, the awesome keyboard replacement app, Android is getting some really innovative ways to interact with your phone.

Currently, Gesture Search is only for your Android contacts, bookmarks, applications, and music (you need Android 1.6 or later to run it) — hopefully Google can come up with an effective way to let it search the entire web.

You can find the app here.
